Thanks! It would be a better job if the goddamn thing ran.

Someone at some point put half-ass plug wires on it. They used a spare #4 as a #1, so it is too short to fit properly, so we suspect the coil pack plugs were changed around. That wiring was not laid out according to BMW spec...and all 4 plugs are interchangeable.

Now I get to do a pinout from the DME to the coilpacks, since all 4 coilpack plugs are the same colors, so I can tell which is which, so I can hack together the plug wires too.

Hopefully, that is all that is wrong. I need this car done and out of here, we have 5 E30s here right now.

Thanks! BTW, we hate this motor with all possible hatred. Gaskets are stupid, mating surfaces are stupid, the whole goddamn thing is bits and parts bolted to bits and parts. I say fuck the M42, heave that POS and get an M50.

Same as I said to my customer here, before we touched it. When his old motor threw a bearing somewhere, I said "yay, swappie time!" He said, "nah, lets fix it"...and now hell hath befallen me.

The timing cases and profile gasket are terrible. Nearly impossible to get them not to weep oil.

I stayed M42 bc I wanted to keep my factory R12 AC system.

^This...and nice job OP. I wish mine looked that good.

I have a problem with mine at what I refer to as the 'Bermuda Triangle'. It's where the upper and lower timing case meet the block assy at the profile gasket. It still sweats a bit but i'm not worried about it.
