That was my Firehawk when i bought it! I still have the block since its the original matching#'s to the car. But pretty obvious it needs some machine work if i'm ever to use it again.
Funny thing... We just picked up a 95 Z28 that looked like that on the inside.

We pulled the heads.... cylinders were fine. Just a little sludge. Heads were good too. Speaking on behalf of Stuart.... I think he'll have a picture later.... This is a very annoying mystery.

Better check the bearings in the bottom end.

This is an honest question as well, are you attempting to turn it over by the starter or by the crank bolt?

Crank bolt.... got on it enough to tighten it even more... just isnt budging... I personally think the motor is fine since it turned out of the car. I think its the clutch or flywheel.... Who knows though. We are tired of going on a wild goose chase and are pulling the motor this weekend.

Yep. Pulling it saturday, I'll investigate more thoroughly once its out, and I have the car up and running. Rings are good, pistons are good, head gasket looks brand new(said it was rebuilt before it was crashed, and I believe him). So its gotta be bottom end stuff, and I'm not in the situation to do an engine rebuild at this point in time. Heres a pic of the block with the heads off,

Did you put that oil in there after you removed the head? If that was already in there when you removed the heads, then you problem was hydro-lock.

If that is the case, you should turn each cylinder to TDC and measure it's depth in the cylinder wall. Hydro-lock is how rods get bent.

This. That's wwaaayyy too much oil in the cylinders to run.

                      Early models do it better.

Was already in there though. I think the issue may have been the clutch/ flywheel though.

If that oil was already in there, then I can promise you that was your problem.

Try turning the engine over now without the heads installed.

Even if the oil was in there, with the spark plugs out, it would have turned over.

Yea I was thinking about that this morning.

Carry on. But for future reference, don't put that much oil in there. ;-)
