Has been for a while, just hasn't been able to happen unfortunately.
I had had it scheduled to go in before H2o, but with work and everything I don't think that will happen.
Very soon though :)
Plan is for a single 3" back to 3" or 4" polished pipes.Leave a comment:

Sorry, didn't know that, all the swaps I've seen have the headers pointed in the correct direction .
So is there a full exhaust build in the works then ? Just wondering , with the cat starting to become more civilized with every update.Leave a comment:

I'll let em go cheap. I bought them for my 331 build for my 61' F100, but they were too short so I need to buy the taller version. They are brand new. One was taken out and sat on the motor and then put right back in the box.MMM. You tempt me. Perhaps when I start building the new engine after H2o...Leave a comment:
You should buy my valve covers :)

Thanks! I am very happy with it, and am very glad I went with this over an m60 or the like.
Now, this is not to say this is the perfect swap. If you have more money, go LSx, if you want to keep it more oem+, go M/S6x. It's all opinion.
But it's a cheap, powerful, bulletproof drivetrain that's got a lot of torque, is quite small and is very cheap to upgrade, compared to a BMW v8(for instance, my engine has 1/4 the cams :) )
Has been dyno'd. The essentially stock(minus cam, but that does nothing with stock heads, in some instances reduces power), $300 engine ran 248hp and 265ft/lbs.
With that said, if you have more questions or decide to go this route for your swap, don't hesitate to pm me.'
Regardless of your final direction, best of luck!
So glad you understand this topic enough to comment on it!
Ha, oh wait...
As has been said multiple times in this thread, short of doing a full custom steering linkage setup, or having a very expensive set of headers made, this is how exhausts on 5.0L e30's are run. The driver's side loops around the oil pan and meets the passenger side with a y-pipe. It will then be run back from there.
Good grief! I'm barely over that for my entire car haha. But I bet it'll be a screamer when she's done, and you won't care. Can't speak for Funf himself, but he seemed pretty happy about it when we went out for a ride. The thing that really makes this swap special is the noise... you just don't expect it to come out of the car. It's glorious :)
Frankly though, if you do everything right (full rebuild, heads, cam, ect) for the 302 you're still spending a good bit of money. The last time I tallied up my expenses, I was sitting at about $5k for my swap. For that kind of money you can do a LS1 and a t-56 (or a M6x). Granted though, the mounts are much more expensive and maintenance for a M6x is going to be much more expensive than either of the domestic engines.
FYI, I've got the same engine setup as Funf, minus heads (his are stock gt40's I believe, I've got Edelbrock RPMs) and similar setups are dynoing at about 315-330ish wheel (with RPMs).
I need to drop by some time and see this, I'll see if I have any spare parts lying around that may be of help...Leave a comment:

At first I thought you were gonna make a legit exhaust.
And den I saw you put the headers on backwards .Leave a comment:

Always liked your build man. I was wondering, are you happy you went with a 5.0? or do you wish you swapped in something german like an m60? also have you ever dynoed that thing?
I've been thinking more and more about v8 swaps which is why I ask.Leave a comment:

I'm patiently waiting for you to post the following update:

So I actually had a day off between my 50+ hour work weeks to get some work done to get the car back on the road. I needed to put my new clutch slave cylinder on and I also wanted to get my new headers on. Since taking the headers off makes the path to take the slave out, I figured I'd pull those off first.
first I pulled the plug wires off after labeling their order.

Then started unbolting and pulled them off

Now, I had been warned not to use paper gaskets for the headers, and today, I learned why.

Here's a comparison of the new to old headers, and the new copper gaskets I had to put on.

While I had the rusty bolts off, I figured I'd wire wheel them and give them some primer and engine enamel paint. Before/ after

Also gave the "exhaust" a quick coat.

Now, while I was under the car I had another look at my tired, barely hanging on skidplate, and noticed something weird about the oil pan. I'll let the pictures do the talking, but the sides of the pan *use to* be flat.

Now it was time for the clutch overhaul of a new slave cylinder, DOT4 fluid and a heat sleeve for the braided line.

Got that finished up and bled, we bench bled it and held the slave high in the air to rid the line of any more air pockets. Got it back in and adjusted, and I'm still amazed; there is so much more feel and clutch engagement linearity than ever before. I love it!
So now some pics of the headers on. Would look better if the rest of my engine/ bay didn't look like trash. But that will be fixed soon!

QUOTE=milano_red;1156825]I fell off the bandwagon on this...did I hear turbo??
Within a year or so :P
Also give me your car. I don't have the money but I can pay you in v8 e30 rides.
Ok so update time.
Had to order a new $70 slave cylinder because they don't sell the rod individually

And here are the new(used) BBK headers

And tonight I ordered a B&M oil cooler kit. Tubing will be run through the driver's side high beam, yes indeed. I also ordered a Hurst shift knob. I know it's the wrong pattern, but still. Figured I'd get something a little less stupid.
