Can't speak for Funf himself, but he seemed pretty happy about it when we went out for a ride. The thing that really makes this swap special is the noise... you just don't expect it to come out of the car. It's glorious :)
Frankly though, if you do everything right (full rebuild, heads, cam, ect) for the 302 you're still spending a good bit of money. The last time I tallied up my expenses, I was sitting at about $5k for my swap. For that kind of money you can do a LS1 and a t-56 (or a M6x). Granted though, the mounts are much more expensive and maintenance for a M6x is going to be much more expensive than either of the domestic engines.
FYI, I've got the same engine setup as Funf, minus heads (his are stock gt40's I believe, I've got Edelbrock RPMs) and similar setups are dynoing at about 315-330ish wheel (with RPMs).
Always liked your build man. I was wondering, are you happy you went with a 5.0? or do you wish you swapped in something german like an m60? also have you ever dynoed that thing?
I've been thinking more and more about v8 swaps which is why I ask.
Thanks! I am very happy with it, and am very glad I went with this over an m60 or the like.
Now, this is not to say this is the perfect swap. If you have more money, go LSx, if you want to keep it more oem+, go M/S6x. It's all opinion.
But it's a cheap, powerful, bulletproof drivetrain that's got a lot of torque, is quite small and is very cheap to upgrade, compared to a BMW v8(for instance, my engine has 1/4 the cams :) )
Has been dyno'd. The essentially stock(minus cam, but that does nothing with stock heads, in some instances reduces power), $300 engine ran 248hp and 265ft/lbs.
With that said, if you have more questions or decide to go this route for your swap, don't hesitate to pm me.'
At first I thought you were gonna make a legit exhaust.
And den I saw you put the headers on backwards .
So glad you understand this topic enough to comment on it!
Ha, oh wait...
As has been said multiple times in this thread, short of doing a full custom steering linkage setup, or having a very expensive set of headers made, this is how exhausts on 5.0L e30's are run. The driver's side loops around the oil pan and meets the passenger side with a y-pipe. It will then be run back from there.

Good grief! I'm barely over that for my entire car haha. But I bet it'll be a screamer when she's done, and you won't care.
I need to drop by some time and see this, I'll see if I have any spare parts lying around that may be of help...
MMM. You tempt me. Perhaps when I start building the new engine after H2o...
I'll let em go cheap. I bought them for my 331 build for my 61' F100, but they were too short so I need to buy the taller version. They are brand new. One was taken out and sat on the motor and then put right back in the box.
I'm massively looking forward to seeing this car at h20.
:o Just go towards the sound of an American V8 and the National Anthem playing. Hopefully I'll have my interior fully together, my bay will still look like the thrown together mess that it is though. Hope you're not expecting much
Hey fun, your car is wicked, been watching the thread for quite a while and I like what you've done and watching the progress. Where did you get the 90 degree oil filter adapter?

Thank you! It's a Ford racing piece ordered Summit Racing. Let me know if you have any difficulty finding it, I can look through my 40+ Summit order confirmation emails and find the link haha. Should be easy to find though.
If I had to do it again, I might've gotten an oil filter relocation kit. Then you can put your filter wherever you want AND run a cooler inline with it. Just a thought.
I'm considering running an oil cooler so that may be a good idea. It will be out on the track quite a bit and I'm not too familiar with how the oil temps do in these engines but I would imagine not to well without at least running a bigger pan. I've just got the e30v8 pan for now

I would agree with that. The 90 degree adapter is like $90 or something crazy. I got a sandwhich adapter and oil cooler kit for $100 shipped, so just spend the extra few bucks and do the whole setup at once.
