Boo! We should have kept BOTH rear trailing arms from my old e30. The silver car got the passenger side and this car could have gotten the driver side! :)
Orflz. Yes, I was thinking that earlier today too. Instead, I just order wheel bearings and picked up wheel bearing tools today....
Got the new rear wheel bearings in, my puller tool didn't work so I unfortunately had to hammer the bearings/hubs in (used the old bearing faced to the new bearing). However, it still has me a little worried. I guess time will tell. However, when driving it now, it is in fact far quieter but there is a slight rumbling from the rear left that goes away when I turn right. It almost sounds like a tire roar though. Ideas??
Could the CV joint be worn out too? I'm not too familiar with them and/or how they wear and what they sound like, but your possible culprits are limited and the bearing is new.
Try rotating tires or borrowing a set of wheels you know are balanced and have good tires. Surely someone in Clemson will let the almighty Max borrow some wheels. :)
I replaced the front right bearing on the ZJ and I still get some humming when loaded vs quiet when unloaded. I did a tire rotation and the noise remained. I know all my tires are a bit worn unevenly, but if its showing the same symptoms I feel it could be something else. I'm going to assume mine is due to a worn universal joint right next to the hub.

Thanks for the reply Gar,
Yea that was going to be my first step was to rotate tires to see if the sound moves. Otherwise, the BMW guys/e30 guys in Clemson are non-existent or not very cool...
I figured worn CV joints would click though, I could be wrong though.
As for your ZJ, axles are dirt cheap brand new, I'd just replace them if the sound is that bad.
Got my IS lip on, and switched the two rear tires. Drove it to work this morning and it continues to make the "tire roar-ish" noise. However, it goes away under moderate to hard braking.... Thoughts?
