what yard and when? i may be up for joining in depending on time/location. (and i can trade you some code red for those spacers. oh and the muffler hangers i still need to go look for... doh!)
Hawkins Point, how's 11am sound for you. I want to be gone by around 1 so I can beat DC rush hour home and catch O's opening day. Usually the best day of the year for the O's, where they're still technically in contention.....
Yesterday I fixed the driveshaft... I think that CSB was a little done.
Got it back together and took it for a test drive down this awesome road somewhat close to my house. I have some better pictures for later, but for now, I will include these of the location we were at.
.....not a hillclimber
Also picked up this thing... so +1 on the wayyy too many projects we already have.
You have no idea. The most e30s I've had at my house is 5. Plus we have 5 people living at my house. And Stuart is usually here on the weekends. On average, there are about 6 cars at my house. Hahaha. Right now there are 9 outside......
Welll. I am not much of an updater, but I figure I will post some cool pictures and what has happened to the car since the last event.
I can tell you one thing, rallycross is the most exciting racing I have ever done (out of autox and some drifting). I love this car to death even though it is very clanky and noisy. Let me just post some pictures of the event.
Saturday started out well with the only problem being the battery dying which was because the alternator belt was lose(just looked at it ten minutes ago and it's about to break, so time to replace that).
Thanks to Josh for making us some cool stickers that all 3 E30 teams are now representing on our cars.
Also got a dumb "I got this" sticker for the passenger.
Speaking of the other teams, here is Josh throwing up some dirt.
And team "eta" getting a little tipsy in corner 4.
Stuart also is my co-driver. (Funfgan as you all know him) This is him throwing it into corner 4 again.
Everyone waiting on Sunday to get some more action!
It get's really dusty inside the car!
It was really muddy on Sunday as the ran the course with water truck twice! My times decreased by almost 30 seconds as the course dried up.
Of course... getting sideways, where I'm NOT supposed to be.
Again, almost hitting some trees.
And finally.
Well, it was a fun day, but the car was just caked with mud. Underneath was a couple inches thick of mud.
Initial wash, taking all the wheels off and washing inside the wheel wells out.
Then I washed it again after I sprayed all the big stuff off. All Clean!
I am already ruining this 9 month old paint job.... it was crappy anyway.
Decided to clean the inside out. (it was so dusty) I wish I was like Josh and could just open it up and powerwash the inside out. After that, I tried to fit my new Starion seats. I like the adjustability and how low they sit, I am currently making some custom brackets to make them fit, excited for these.
Also want to install a radio, going to do that soon because driving without music and the rattling exhaust is killer! So if anyone can help me out with what wire are what, I would appreciate it. (I already know the speaker wires.)
List before the next event allll the way in September.
-Make a skid plate.
-Make some plastic protection for components/lines underneath the car like fuel filter.
-Take out diff and change fluid.
-Fix the hood release.
-Find and install new alternator and belt.
-Make mounts and put in new seats. :D
-Take whole exhaust system off and remake it, tuck it better and make it sound uber cool.
-Get a set of bilsteins and put them on. (REALLLY need them as my car sucks in the corners) This means, if you have a set, let me know.
-Install radio and speakers if need be.
-Eventuallllly fix the rear end, but I don't really mind.
-Do the rear wheel bearings. This is needed baddly.
Wow. Not that I write down that list, I better go get started. I have a lot to do to make this car better so I can beat all my competitors.
Also, did a compression test. All 4 cylinders were around 160-170. So I am pretty happy with that as the motor has 220k on it when the odometer stopped reading.
for plastic protection, just go buy a big $15 storage bin (the tough black ones) from walmart or home depot, and cut up the material. THat's how I did mine.
Did some business yesterday... I thought I would redo the sensors ans gaskets and such and make it look pretty.
Pulled it in the garage.... partially, it was at least 98 degrees out yesterday.
Pulled everything apart.
I am going to come back in here and redo the "mess" but didn't have time to get hoses. Plus it was 4th of july and nobody was really open.
Dirty injectors.... took a brush to that and cleaned it up. Forgot after pics.
Valves looked pretty clean for a car that stopped counting at 220k.
New gaskets.
New oil filter and all the sensors and gaskets on. Also painted the oil filter cap.
Discovered that I have Bav Auto coil packs...
Cams are pretty clean.
Gears are a little too pointy for my liking. I'll be replacing them in the future... Or not since it has enough miles on it anyway. haha.
Painted intake mani.
Brilliantrot color matched valve cover.
All back together!
It was sooo hot out, I could barely stand it even with my fan blowing straight on me... My next thing to do is the suspension. Rear subframe is coming out and whole front suspension and billys are going in. Some other goodies have also been ordered.
I watching carefully, since I"m gonna start ripping apart my swap M42 in a month or so :)
so many damn hoses on that thing, lol.
Redo all the hoses. There is a thread in the m42 section on how to redo it all.... it makes it a lot simpler. I love that I know this engine inside and out.
