    The Black Dot project thread

Hello r3v :D I'm sure most of you are either familiar with my car and or my old build thread. I figured since my car will be going through some new changes and I finally got a decent camera to work with I would start a new thread to document it. Just to refresh, I got my car from my uncle over the summer and have done things to it that I regret, and things I still enjoy today. I've always been a fan of the stripped out 'euro trash' and 'stance' style (yea I know ''haterz gonna hate'' w.e.) so I'm sure I'll find a way to incorporate that without completely ruining my BMW. I recently acquired a bunch of new suspension goodies to help get my build started in the right direction. Here's some pics to make you guys happy!

    And my new wheel plans!

Here are a few shots of how my car is sitting :)

Struts naked waiting for new springs!

Some of the new parts. Going to pick up a front crossmember tomorrow and still need to order some fresh sway bar bushings/mounts.

And idk how but this is going in my car somewhere :drink:

Thanks for looking. I'll be updating this thread a lot!

I think that needs to be your new boost controller...

            More updates! :D

As much as I tried to do it myself, I couldn't get the CABs onto the control arm. I brought it to the local shop and they pressed them on for free

Also I began tearing into the rear suspension. Took of the one bolt on each of the shocks and I was able to lower the trailing arms to pop off the springs.

And now it looks like this! Check out that sexy paint

With the car jacked up I was able to work on the rear fenders and roll them a bit more. Hopefully the wheels wont rub once its back down to earth.

As I wait for parts I decided to go pick up some red tint spray paint for my tail lights. I thought it would help clean up the look of my e30.

I taped up the reverse lights all nice so that they still turn white

A couple of coats later I had these nice shiny new tail lights!

After another coat I ended up with this :D

                    THanks!

I recently received my new set of springs from Ireland Engineering. I was looking mainly for a more aggressive/stiffer setup. They also had a nice drop which is always good :p After waiting a few days due to shitty weather I was finally able to throw them on. The rears took about 15mins. As for the front, they took much longer. After over an hour of tightening bolts and getting everything attached, they were on. The new bushings solved the horrible shake I had at 40+ mph. The new springs feel great as well and eliminated with the rubbing I had with such wide wheels.

I didn't really take many pictures of the progress because I was so anxious to get them on so heres a few. I'll get some good pictures of how everything is sitting soon.

Thanks, can't wait for the warm weather!

I got started on my roof rack project. I picked up a cheap rack on eBay for only $45. I bought it with the intention of putting wood slats and crossbars on the metal feet it came with. To keep this cheap I decided to use an old fence piece that we had laying around. I trimmed off the top and bottom and was left with a bunch of good planks of wood. I took the edges of the planks and cut them down to size. I also split one of the planks to make the cross bars. I stained them with some dark wood stain and they're currently drying now(pics tomorrow :D )

                        The old fence

                        All cut!

The front poke on my car was also starting to bug me a bit. At first I had decided to use 5mm spacer to minimize the grinding I would have to do on the caliper brackets. I was still unhappy with how much the wheels still poked out. I cut off the whole bracket but was steel hearing a grindng noise. It ended up being my bolts rubbing on the brake dust shield. I ended up having to grind them down to get them to clear.

Me grinding down the lug bolts

                        Thanks for reading :)

I finished my roof rack (before everyone else :p ) I'm really happy with how it came out. The stain soaked in nice and gave the wood a really nice deep color. Here are the pics! I'll try and get some better ones soon!

Note that the bolts should have gone on the crossbars, not the slats

And finally mounted! I also added the plastic end caps (not pictured)

I LOVE that roof rack. Yup. Heres hoping you use it for function and not just form. Would it benefit from having cross bars that run front to rear as well? Just for tying things down and helping to stop stuff from sliding off?
I will be doing this same thing.

Thanks, thats a good idea. Where do you think I should mount the side crossbars?
