Is there room to lay them on top of the existing crossbars, just on the inside of the metal feet? Essentially like adding another slat on each side, except attached to the top of the existing crossbars instead of the bottom. If theres room. If there isnt room, you could get a longer bolt for the existing outside slats, and put your new crossbars on top of the existing outside slats. So that your sideways cross bar is sandwiched between two outside slats.
....that was likely the worst explanation possible. hope it made some sense. I will likely do mine so that the outside is a sandwich. Looks lovely in my head.

Looking good man! I suggest you don't cut the springs. It should be pretty low as is. In either case, make sure you have a skid pad!

Finished up the roof rack. I trimmed about an inch from the crossbars on each side and added the plastic end caps. I also added on the side crossbars onto the top to make it more of a basket. I like the new look of it! :D
