    Gluck's Spring Break Scramble

So spring break has finally come and like a bunch of us, I have a lot of projects going on this week. 3 big ones mainly and a bunch of little ones. Luckily I'll have 2 buddies working with me to try and get this accomplished.

    The big ones:
    • Convert the cabrio to 5 lug
    • Swap over goodies to new E30
    • Sell old soon to be ex-MT2 E30

I'm making this thread to document my crazy scramble.

    First things first, here's the new E30 I got yesterday for $1200 from a buddy with a blown head gasket. It's a 02/91 production 318i slicktop. :)

The included service records indicate it stayed in the Austin area its whole life = no rust. :D

We put on a new head gasket and battery then drove it from Corpus Christi, TX to Fulshear, TX (220ish miles) starting at 10pm in stupidly thick fog without a hitch.

    Here's what we started with:

    Delicious engine latte.

A quick wash before we left. Poor little Odee had been in a garage since July and had collected some dust.

    Pics from this afternoon:

    Slicktop goodness

    Minus this stupid thing:

    Old Bavauto sticker:

BMW alarm and keyless entry, that works!

Please ignore the valve cover. The original one is in 3 pieces for some reason. (Idiots)

    Things needing attention:

    Door stopper is all mangled:

Only spec of rust on this car. Going to get fixed soon.

Burning coolant/oil do a number on an exhaust tip:

List of big stuff to do:

    Bluff and polish
    Switch over suspension goodies
    Switch over BBK
    Switch over Interior
    Switch M42's
    Install med. case 4.10 diff
    Prep for MT-2 Install

    Little stuff completed so far:

    Washed
    Replaced broken driver's mirror glass
    Swapped exhaust tips

    More will be added later.

Here's the other E30s involved in this thread:

    91' S50 Cabby (build thread)

    91' Soon to be ex-MT2 318i

Wish I could have seen the car run for the first time :(

Glad it went to a good home though!

            Some parts.

BC coils should be in tomorrow and hopefully the calipers as well. Going to Austin tomorrow to pick up my old 4 door. Pics of shenanigans to come.

Are you gonna swap the mt2 onto the new slicktop 318i/4?

So we didn't get anything done on the cabrio, but we did on the new E30! :)

First things first, we needed to go get my old 4 door so we could start transferring parts over. Rented a uhaul truck and trailer in 20 mph cross winds. Worst, noisiest, dangerous trip ever, but we made it safe and sound.

                  Got started on pulling engines:

We left the AC compressor and power steering in this car as both are all new and honestly, the car's few only good points.

Next we did the same to new E30:

Made this discovery afterwards, it came off with the engine. lol

Next we bolted back up the transmission to the orange engine (look at the valve cover) and started installing it into the old E30.

Was a bitch for some reason BTW^^^^^

The following day we made the discovery a very important shipment had been delayed fucking up all of our plans. So we had to scrable to get 2 running engines back together in 2 cars without redo the seals and a bunch of other little shit I wanted to do while they were out.

                  So we had to improvise......

My bad oil leak turned out to be a cracked upper pan.

Then Maks had to leave back for Dallas. Luckily for me Matt stayed for an hour and we got the new M42 in the new E30.

I spent the rest of that day hooking up everything in the drivetrain in that car.

The following day my friend/roommate Kevin showed up to buy a new E30. Since that wasn't happening till later in the day, he helped me swap the suspension and interior. This was Saturday afternoon by this point. We were leaving by Sunday.

                  Pulled springs/struts

RX-7 on the right and E30 on left.

My E30 had a brand new spare in the trunk.

                  Spotless

Had some shenanigans with just springs installed, no shocks.

Took part of the interior apart and discovered a smoker owned my car at some point.

Finished swapping the interior and drove from Houston to Austin at 10pm Sunday night without a problem:

The new E30 dubbed "Odee" looked like this the next day:

                  Slicktop goodness:

Even though we didn't get done everything I wanted to, I now have 2 running E30s. Big thanks to Maks (mvrk10256), Matt (lolvtec), and Kevin (Delraco) for getting my crazy plan accomplished! :)

Yup, but I'm going to wait to get it painted to match the new car first. Also need a few hardware bits too.

For the 4 door? Well it needs it own thread, but done some things to the front end. :)
