Some of you may remember my e30, others may not. Here is a picture of it at the griot's tech session at the picnic in 2010:

Here is what I did to start 2011:

Then work, chump racing, and some hiccups with the build got in the way and the car spent all of 2011 in pieces. I missed driving it greatly and I am happy to report I am back in full swing and hope to have the car ready to go this summer. Specifically I want to make it back to the e30 picnic this year.
First thing on my to-do list was something I should have done when I built the car the first time. Get rid of the terrible rattle-can black paint job on the engine bay. I wanted to clean-up the bay a little as well so I removed all the soon to be un-necessary bracketry, I also removed the seam sealer around the strut towers and trimmed off most of the "battery tray". After seeing how it looked on Janderson's car I decided to finish the engine bay with bedliner. However there was no way I was going through all that work and doing it black again. So I went with a tintable bedliner and rolled it on. I considered painting the bay sterling silver but wanted something more durable since I am in there working on the car all the time.

I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out. Its not a perfect match to sterling silver but it looks sooooo much better than the black that it replaced.
I removed the front subframe and re-inforced it, then had it powdercoated and bolted it back up under the car. Decided to upgrade to the Z3 2.7 turn rack courtesy of blunttech.

Motor mounts hinting at what might be coming.....
