Picked up an HQ Autosport COP conversion kit and got it installed. Pretty happy with the results.

First I had to move my father in law's car out of the garage so I could use its space:

    Before:

    Parts to add:

    After:

Only thing I'm not happy with is the finish on the coil mounting plate. I forget the technical name for the process, but it picks up smudges like you wouldn't believe. It's definitely going to be painted. I realize my car looks pretty nasty under the hood, but I want new parts to make it gradually cleaner, not blend in with the surrounding sludge.

It needs a little bit of paint and wiring work before I'd call it good. Hopefully I can get around to that within the next few weeks. I'm not sure if it's just my imagination or not, but the engine definitely feels smoother, and it certainly idles better. Considering this kit was cheaper than a set of stock coils and wires, I'd definitely recommend it.

Now I've got all kinds of room for a terbow! Just need to reroute that pesky AC line.

I'm sure by now I'm in the running for "slowest build thread ever."

But I've been making progress. I've been working and travelling a lot, so I haven't made as much progress as I'd have liked, but progress is being made.

I decided to shorten up the wiring for the coils. Unkempt wiring is kind of a pet peeve of mine, so I had to do something about this:

So I broke out the soldering iron and shrink wrap, and shortened all the wires to get this:

And then loomed it up, to get this. Much better.

I recently purchased a Garrett T28 from another member on here, so now that direction of things has been decided. I'll slowly start collecting parts for the turbo side of things. Starting to get a picture in my mind of how things are going to shape up. Only things I've really decided on are the turbo (since I already bought it) and the ECU. I'm going to be using a Performance Electronics PE3. We used one in school, and it's amazing.

I've got a set of Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2s that are currently on our LeMons car at work, so as soon as I get some money for new tires, I'll pull those and put them on the car. Going to be nice to get off these spray-bombed bottle caps.

Simple as that. I don't know why people say this turbo thing is so hard.

Hale nah. Down here, AC is a must.

That's going to be a big challenge for this build. I'm confident I can do it, but fitting a manifold over the AC compressor is going to be a pain.

Turbo setup is currently the turbo sitting on the old coil mounts. There is no setup currently.

So I noticed there was quite a bit of play in my steering column, largely due to the warn out mini-guibo. Someone thought putting a rubber joint in the middle of an unsupported section between two U-joints was a good idea. So I decided I could do better. I'm sure the proper course of action would be to buy a new steering column, but I like doing things myself.

So, the first thing I did was cut apart the stock setup, and ream out the holes to 3/8".

Then I laser cut some 1/4" 316L discs at work. I've got some neat tools at my disposal.

Then I bolted them back together with the steel discs replacing the rubber joints, using AN6-14 bolts and AN6 locknuts.

Sumbitch sure isn't coming apart or wiggling now. Would anyone else be interested in a conversion like this?

                    Building your own manifold?

Considering it, if I can't find one I like. I'd rather do it myself than give up AC.

Potentially yes depending on cost. Is there enough room to just turn it 90* and bolt the two sides directly together? Or maybe space them with washers? You'd obviously have to re-center the steering wheel but that's no biggie. I'll be doing something similar when I swap my rack to get rid of that guibo.
The first car I ever rode in was an e30

I don't know how I didn't see this. But to answer your question, there's not enough room to get a nut (at least an AN365 nut, but you might could run an AN364 half-height nut) in the side that joins to the shaft. That was the whole reason I went with the offset spacers.

Got a nice little Christmas present from the in-laws, finally got all the parts to mount it on the roof. Going to be much nicer to not have to take the truck any time I want to take the bikes anywhere.
