Agree 100% on the black bolts.
Wheels look really nice.

I took apart a set of wheels and after I got one of them done I realized, like you did, that there has got to be a faster way to get it done.
I don't have room for a sandblast booth setup so I sent them to a wheel shop, as 4-5 hours of my time per wheel was nuts.
Anyway... your blacked out setup looks great! I do agree that the black bolts look much better than the polished ones. Maybe gold bolts from Persch & Partner is in store for the future!Leave a comment:

Finally got some goods for you guys :D
There is a mixture of iPhone/DSLR pictures...
First off, I've been busy plugging away on the BBS RM's and have made good progress on them, they are almost finished. I still need to refinish the center caps and dimple rings. It's pretty insane the amount of time I've put into these, I'd say close to 6 hours on each wheel. Once I had them apart, I was ready to start stripping the faces/barrels:

Stripper applied:

It may seem like it was cake to get them to this point, but it really wasn't. It's super tedious and messy. It took me nearly 6 hours just to get them bare. This was even more inspiration to build a nice sand blasting booth for my shop. I also stripped the barrels fully, not really necessary but I'm stupid:

Fast forward a few weeks, and here they are. Super happy with how they turned out! The powder coater did an amazing job. Try not to get distracted by the large ugly taped off sections where the lip and barrel meet. I originally wanted to run polished bolts, but once I put one together, I didn't like the look. I decided to have the bolts matched to the wheels and I think it looks way better. Since the bolts got coated too, I had to double layer a ziplock bag over each individual bolt to install them, and then once again to torque them so they didn't get scratched. Talk about time consuming. They are all torqued and sealed up now, so now they are ready for tires!

This is how they looked with the polished bolts, I really didn't like it. The all black looked much more "sinister" to me:

And last but not least, the 2002 is finally down at my shop! Expect fruitful updates on the regular again :D

Thanks guys! I'm super hyped on it
Welding table is next on my To-Build list. Metal plate is obnoxiously expensive I've come to realize, which is what has been holding me back so far, trying to come up on a good deal. Got quoted $280 for a 4x2' plate of 3/8" by my local steel supply so that was a no go. There is a pretty bitchin metal scrap yard just north of me so hopefully I can score something good there.Leave a comment:

I have the same loveseat lol CLEAN shop, love it! You should have made the work table from plate steel. Nothing like a welding table! I have one that is 6'x4'x3'tall 1/2" top and massive legs. Over 500lbs and gets anything done for welding!Leave a comment:

A little update on what's going on in my life with the shop and everything. I finally did something '02 related today so I figured now would be a good time to get up to speed on things!
It's been about a month now since I've had my shop, and I've been over there every chance I can get setting stuff up and organizing and what not. Purchased a lot of new tools, built a bunch of shit and it's been a blast so far. Loving every minute of it.
For how thoroughly I normally document stuff, I've surprisingly laid off a bit. I guess I've been too caught up in setting everything up to take a second and document things, at least with my nice camera. I finally stopped to take some pictures today on how everything is looking so far. It's still far from done, but it's getting there. I started off by building the biggest work table ever (so much room for activities):

I felt like building something random so I made a tool wall which hangs from the ceiling, thought it was kind of a cool alternative:

Then built some standard shelving space, nothing really special. I plan on painting it black to kind of match the general theme of the shop. It also doubles as a work table and another place to hang some more tools and what not:

Gotta have a lounge. I got this couch for super cheap but it's kind of small and too nice for a shop, so I'm selling it. But for now, it'll do. Also got a mini fridge and a music setup. Gotta have tunes too!

And the lift is up and running as well! I feel very lucky to have this:

So that's the state of the shop as of right now. More progress will come with time. And that brings us to the 2002, I finally got something done! How they looked:

Apart:

And a mock up of the new lips:

Then off to powdercoat they go...soon. Thanks for looking!Leave a comment:

Been reading this thread for the past few days here an there. Totally subscribed! Those beads in you welds got a lot better. I love 2002's. Keep it up man, can't wait to see this car finished. I can definetely hear you on how proper workspace can be so prescious. I am very lucky, my father lets me use his garage for all the work i've done on my e30.Leave a comment:
