325ic Calypso Euro Conversion - Houndstooth & dbilas now, MT1 & MM 3.2 stroker coming
drool is right Dan.. incredible to look at. def hoping I get the chance to own a set.. maybe even an RD valvecover too.
received @blackjack7s' AFM and sssquid chip today. will be shipping the chip back to sssquid as I have a 173 tune coming from them tomorrow.
you can see how much bigger they are in the pics below. they're not compatible with the m20 airbox either. I'm sure the E30/BMW vets around here know this cold... but the M30 airbox conversion stuff is new to me, and as usual the OEM+ thing always kicks in..
the M30 AFM was fully refurbed by Bav Resto last year and looks great.
the M20 airbox. M30 AFM won't bolt up, and the opening's too small
M20 vs M30 AFMs - use the same harness connector. M30 taller, same overall length and width
You see those nuts? That's how all our hardware looked new! zinc chromate plating in my future that's for sure.
Can really see the opening differences.
bolt patterns don't line up due to height difference (e.g., left to right in the pic doesn't line up, top to bottom in the pic does). even if they did the housing opening is too small for the M30 AFM

as is frequently the case, stock design is pretty darn good. hard to beat without a complete cold air setup. also was of the mind that cone filters don't flow as well but that's a generalization so... no data means it's just an opinion.

picked up a spare m20 airbox and modified it for the m30 AFM. Wasn't difficult since the AFM inlet is the same width, just taller. Reused 2 of the holes, extended the opening in the upper airbox piece, and drilled 2 new holes.
Was also able to keep the air horn / velocity stack by cutting down the center to separate top and bottom. I then trial fit the 2 halves with duct tape (!) and they fit fine - full air flow from a larger cross section. So I filled the gap and JB welded the assembly.

inspiration via rav320uk and e30zone.
RHD ITBs are da bomb now. if/when they have an airbox they will be the go to ITB solution. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vr1Ej21rR7o

thanks ;-) yeah I've got TheVintage on my radar. I'll be ready with the following:
-- dbilas with a basic stage 1 AFM tune
-- 3 new tires (rears + spare)
-- painted and mounted eurovalance + new fogs
-- new euro bumpers replacing the badly chromed ones on the car now
-- install hardtop seals and have the headliner re-glued
I also want to replace the decklid to get rid of the brake light wart, but this might have to wait until I get the MT1 installed.

unpacked - everything was wrapped well and arrived safely.
unfortunately these side skirts are not for verts; hoping to trade for repo vert side skirts (or sell them and not run side skirts at all)
soda blasted part of the front panel
part numbers for the front panel and one of the skirts
will put these away for now, but plan is to strip them completely bare, get them repaired and then painted body color. probably leaving the bumpers chrome. Not sure what to do about the end caps since mt1 caps are different and NLA.

just ordered all the front and rear misc mtech1 hardware, stickers etc., including the air ducts and mysterious lower panels that nobody ever has.. we'll see what's really available from BMW shortly.
seems like it's only regulatory/safety affecting and large parts that are blocked from US order...
