Car is in good hands. It will be better then new. The engine is fixable from what we can tell. We will have more time with it in the next 2 days and we can go from there. Dont worry we can save it.

That wear is typical with x amount of miles on the engine. Those cylinder walls are not scored. That's just minor marking from side loading on the pistons. Those bearings are actually in good shape. I wouldn't use them again but your oil pump was not dead. If it was then that engine would be toast. Those nicely polished bearings would be welded to the crank and the same goes for the main bearings as well.
Most bearing wear happens in the first few months of engine break in.
I've seen much worse.
I just wish I could tackle this level of project.
Well done :)

Small update. Finally changed out the rack in my car to a Z3 rack and I love it. It'll be tempting to do the same to the M3, but I have to get it running and driving before that's even considered. I went over to another E30's enthusiasts house to do the swap. I live in an apartment complex and doing work in the complex is forbidden. I remember doing the mess under the intake mod and coolant dropping over all over the place... oops...
This guy and I decided to trade work - He'd do the rack and I'd do his mess under the intake. Bonus points if anyone recognizes the car.
New reservoir and LP hoses.
Old rack - Good riddance! Note the poor life choice in working shoes
Old low pressure lines. I kept the high pressure line. It wanted to be replaced, but General Wallet ordered him back in for a second tour.

It's time for an update, mostly just pictures. The M3 is currently sitting in paint and I'm slowly piecing the interior together, changing out my carpet, dyeing those rear shelves, and wiring here and there (lukebox, E36 switches, etc). I have a lot of goodies lying around (mtech II wheel, recaros, etc), I'll see if I can grab some pics by next week.
The S14 is still a few weeks out - still waiting on parts.
Here's the car right before paint, pressure washed and naked:
Fresh out of paint, yum
Next to CATuned's Henna
I was fortune enough to sweet talk my girlfriend's father (again x4) to let me use his garage to temporarily store my car. I've been working on it here and there, and will finish the interior before sending it back for the S14. I will update this again when my interior is all in
Interior out, carpet followed shortly - The iron was a feeble attempt to fix the headliner.
Fixing the droopy headliner
Old dash on my oil stained, shitty carpet (that isn't going back in)
To my surprise, there was insulation everywhere. I haven't seen this in other build threads or in my 318, so I'm guessing this is M3 specific
"New" dash. The PO gave it to me with the car - it's in fantastic shape. I swapped over all the insulation into this one.
There was a little surface rust in trunk (mainly spare wheel well), but nothing bigger than a nickel and thankfully no cancer. Paranoia from too many Mustang restorations took over and I took a wire brush to the spots and then applied some rust encapsulator
Painting, re-clearing, and dyeing
Can you guess which is from eBay and which is OEM?
This was the shift knob that was on the car. Criminal. :hitler:
Illuminated ZHP short knob, better.

Minor updates all around. The interior is (slowly) making it's way back in. I'm going to call this now: The car will see the road again in late March, early April. I'm getting a little crunched timewise here, so I'm really hoping it's sooner. I am completely over running my host's 2 car garage, so the pressure to get this finished and out of there is going to get worse. I can say with confidence that this will probably be the last time they let me use that garage (will take pics of said garage during next update)
On another note, anyone want to come out and help me bolt the hood on?
Head after glassbeading (one is mine, other S14 head is CATuneds)
I bought a tan carpet and tried to dye it black (Duplicolor). For whatever reason, it just didn't look very good and I didn't want to settle. I turned back to my original carpet, despite swearing not to use it again, and I'm glad I did.
Picture of carpet after it was pulled - pretty disgusting.
I was shocked by how clean it was after washing it.
Afterwards, I dyed it black and it looks really damn sharp. Like, mint carpet sharp. I will have a better photo for the next update.
Speaking of carpet:
Just some of the other parts waiting around:
I can't describe how much I love getting OEM parts
Jaywood's Voltmeter, with tint:
I found this dead pedal in the M3. Anyone have info?
Lukebox and Amp Rack is going in as well. I'm very interested to see how it sounds in the M3, especially compared to my non-amped 318.
Little rooster buddy who has been hanging around while I work
That's it for now. I leave you with this:
