The new guys 90 sedan Build....

Hi guys I am new to the forum and just got my first BMW it is a 1990 325I sedan 5 speed. After selling my 1998 Isuzu trooper I was looking for a fun car to own drive and work on. After much looking I found my BMW. I drove 2 hrs to go look at it They originally wanted 1800 for the car and wanted to charge me a 400 dollar processing fee. After looking at the car it was a lot rougher then the pictures showed. The paint it gone it needs seats a dash. The engine runs strong and trans needs the shifter rebuilt.

That is before I drove it. After looking I found a few rust spots. One in the front fender a small one in the rear quarter on the passenger side. On the drivers side their is a fist sized hold in the rear quarter and two holes in the wheel arch. So I take her for a test drive the M20 runs great it shifts smooth. I try and find a open spot in the DC traffic to get on it to make sure it dose not fall apart at the top of the RPM rage. To my surprise it barks second gear I am amazed at the power a 205,000 mile M20 still has.

I go back to the stealer ship and talk with my wife and she asked what I think I tell her I am in love with the car. The only thing she says is it cost to much for the condition of the car. I am in totally agree with her. I talk to the dealer and they will not come down on the price but they will wave the 400 dollar processing fee. Still too much I under bid them 800 for the car and the owner laughs at me. So I thank him for his time and leave as I am putting my kids in their car seats the guys who was helping me says the owner will sell it for1200 out the door. I just take one look at my wife and she says OK. After I pay them and we leave on the drive home every thing works and no problems.

The best part about this car and the main reason I bought it was the car came with a nearly crack free dash in the back seat. And in the trunk it had two boxes of brand new parts from Bava auto. Bilstein HD shocks, Cross drilled rotors and 4k mile used steering rack. All the small parts to install the shocks. And after cleaning out the trunk I find the previous owners Phone number and I give him a call. He tells me all the used parts came off a used E30 but they all have about 4k on them. He just did a full tune up and timing belt and water pump. So I think I made out like a bandit. The only real bad things that need to be taken care for is the front suspension I have a full rebuild kit for it and lowering springs. I will be documenting the rebuild in the coming weeks. Here are a few pics Don't mind my wife VW in the back ground...

I apologize for my treble grammar and bad story telling....

Looks like a good start for what you paid for it. Where are you in Harrisonburg?

I paid 1300 for the car but it had about 600 dollars worth of parts in the trunk.

Sorry for so long with out a update...

I got my control arm bushings in the lollipops and installed on the control arms. I got my Ceramic front brakes and a new oil pan gasket. And I just ordered some Condor motor sport solid motor mounts. I will have some pics soon. I am going to be doing the whole front end rebuild hopefully next week.

Ok This project took me about 2 hours. It was really windy and very cold but I wanted to get them installed on the car. WARING: I used temporary connectors to get the lights in. It was too cold to solder the connections later this spring I am going to redo the connectors.

Ok to start this project off first you need to remove 3 screws holding the grills on

                          and

Then their are 3 clips on the top of each grill.

Then the grill just about falls out

I removed the center grill just because I wanted more space. It is not needed.

Next I wanted to figure out what wire is the 12V I know from reading the Brown is ground. So I went on a hunt wit my voltage meter. On a 90 325I the wire is orange with a white stripe.

Even tho their is only two wires on the high beams I wanted to test and make sure what was power. White with a blue stripe is power.

Next it is time to remove the headlights it is 3 screws one on top one on each side.

                            Then you end up with.

                            and

Now it is on to the new connectors I got them from Blackout great guy.

Before you do any work make sure to do a test fit of the connectors into the right spots. Just so after installing them and you find out that the one you put for the low beam only fits the Day time running light.

                            Time to cut some wires.

And one othe thing check the plug in the light to see what wire goes to the bulb and ground.

This is what I did for the Day time running lights. I found the 12V to the blinker and spliced it in

Time to reinstall the lights and test them.

Then I installed my Euro grills

                            All done

And here is a picture of my car after I lowered it. It is very dirty we have been having some bad weather.

Here is a night shot with just the running lights.
