ok so monday and tuesday were spent cleaning, painting and installing parts from the 'eta' along with the right water pump. only have the brackets for the alt and the power steering to go on, engine monuts and the transmission and she will be ready to drop in the body. this how i left her yesterday.

                    000000

wasnt able to go work on the old girl this week so decided to reset the odometer from the 'is'. Found the cluster in the store room and got to work. after removing the speedo discoverd that the mile reset mechanism was busted and that i couldnt get the face off, the screws were too tight for the drivers i had. So fished around for the cluster from the old e car that i striped couple of years ago and proceeded to pull it apart.
Had ordered my new gears from garagistic the week prior which arrived last monday, quick delievery.

So here is the tricky part you have desolder 5 pins from the circut board that connect to the motor that turns the spindle, 3 hold the copper wire housing and the other 2 connect to plastic housing behind the copper wires. These are all connected. Be carefull not to break the copper wires, they are very thin and break easy (found that out the hard way but managed to fix it with a little solder) once the circut board is off you can remove the screw that was behind one of the circuts (yellow square one). you can now remove the houseing that contains the magnet and the copper wires, behind that is the other side of the spindle for the miles, push the spindle through from this side after removing the screw from the gear side. The spindle should pop right out and you can reset the miles. Use some tape to hold the miles in place, pop it back in making sure the little gears line up, they should all be in the same postion. I rolled on some miles before i started to see how they line up and work so i knew how they were suposed to go. Push the spindle back into its postion and screw the screw back in. Then its just a matter of putting everything back on the way it came off. As you can see i did it a different way hence the broken copper wire

                            engine done, paint next

so finally got off my ass to update the thread. managed to finish the engine and transmission the day before i left to go home to australia for three weeks to see the folks in august
when we installed the engine we broke the breather valve thingy on top of the transmission so instead of buying a new rear end for the transmission cause no-one sells just the plastic valve, it comes as 1 piece, we decided to glue the top back on and shrink wrap the brittle bottom part, seems to be working fine.

started her up and took her for a drive, man it felt good to be back behind the wheel of an e30 again, coming up to 2 years since.
plan on switching out the injectors from my old manifold that was on the 'is' turns out the motronic is chipped from that car. I think I was running bigger injectors cause when i plug that motronic in she wont idle. so I figure that bigger injectors = more fuel = idle with chipped motronic. I could be wrong guess we will have to see.
anyway loaded her on the uhaul and started home
