Granit coupe: Treking across the country for the 3rd time
Heck yes Alex
Shame I wasn't able to see the car in person, but glad to see you rolling again.
Don't forget to buy the outer-transmission shifter seal (black plunger thing that goes in the transmission shifter hole). $10 at pelican IIRC
EDIT:
Is that blue tape where they dented your hood?Last edited by JinormusJ; 08-17-2014, 07:12 PM.

Also yeah i was looking for both the rubber seal and a boot, but couldn't get either at both a dealer or BMA parts (surprisingly) so I'll just order one as soon as I get into my place in NY.
Currently in Cleveland staying the night returning to New York tomorrow.
On a somewhat related note, Ohio cops are really sketchy. Had one pull out of a hidey-hole behind me and follow for a while before pulling over the guy driving right next to me. gave me a scare, though!
Luckily it's pretty difficult to speed with this 4.10 diff ha!'91 325i

I believe Pelican Parts had some and RockAuto was the place I got mine for my first 5-speed swap. Was cheap IIRC, only like $10-15
Get back safe dude

Made it back a couple days ago, car ran great! Didn't even have to top the oil off! (I usually had to add a quart about halfway through)
There's a couple of things to button up in the next few days:
reposition CAI, replace a cracked fuel line, get my shifter boot and the rubber grommet thing. Then keep driving it hard!
Here's some pretty pictures.
I'll upload the rest of the pics tomorrow'91 325i

So here's the story of how my summer went:
Started in NY and drove back across the country to home in SoCal. Stopping at cool places like Loveland Pass along the way.
Then got home and proceeded to gather parts and started working. Reposts from earlier ahead, just wanted to recap a bit.
I also got a certain special 24v to swap at a later date:
All in all I did the headgasket, replaced leaky heater hoses, new starter, new brake pads, rotors and stainless steel lines, H&R race springs, Billy Sport Shocks, Kamotors CAI, rear shock reinforcements, e90 drophats, and a 5speed swap to replace the leaky slushbox.
I had to raw-dog it for the first day since I couldn't find a decent knob.
But then came up with a nice solution thanks to my stepdad: a golf pride jumbo velvet tour which I love: it's a pistol grip when you want it and a skinny knob when you want it.
Sitting on the new suspension: the springs haven't settled yet.
Hangin with a friend the night before the Odyssey begins again.
On the road again:
And made it!
Took a little day trip to Bennington Vermont
Then a buddy of mine detailed it since he has a bunch of compound and waxes, sealants, polishes etc.
Shiny!
CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN!
Then went for a spin at auto-x with round 2 coming this weekend
And that about catches you up with where I'm at now!
Going to do some work on friday: oil change, replace the fuel line that goes into the filter, and replace the driver's side strut mount since mine is binding on sharp turns.
In addition to that, I still need a cloth shifter boot. I got the rubber seal piece but now I hear that cletonius is heavily back ordered with his custom boots so I'm going to wait on that.
Also for you motorsports acolytes a question about setup: I'm experiencing pretty large amounts of understeer with the new suspension. I was able to change my style a little bit to counteract, but I really want my setup to be more neutral so I don't have to trail brake to ward off the understeer: it's just not conducive to carrying momentum through tight turns which is important to do to compensate for the low power of the m20.
I still need an alignment, that is probably messing with the setup a bit, but I'm not convinced that it should be that huge of a factor.
So should I mess with tire pressures? maybe a few more psi in the back?
Or does this problem require a complete setup change (new sways etc.)?
Thanks for all your help guys, hope you enjoy the photos!Last edited by thatphysicsguy; 10-01-2014, 01:37 PM.'91 325i

Looks awesome, one of my favorite e30 colors and really like the SSR comps as well.
For the understeer, whats your sway bar situation? Is it unhooked or do you have an aftermarket bar? If your toe is bad enough it could definitely contribute as well. You can also raise the rear of the car (add rake), this will help with turn in.- '88 m54 coupe

Barring buying coilovers (no budget for them atm), how would I go about adding rake and raising the rear? should I get thicker spring pads or something?'91 325i
