BTW - a m20 in a 2002 is more motor then is really needed IMHO. I'm a fan of the m42 in a 2002.

alrite so being that its intensely hot for Pa progress is slow and as much is done in shade lol.
So im sure you may have noticed the driver side tail light are was smooshed a bit. In the deal i got a roundie rear tail panel.

After that i started more rust removal in the front.
found some on the 'frame'. it will be fixed..
some of the rockers outside wasnt sturdy metal anymore
the inside of the rocker starting to clean it up.

Didnt get much done. Mike (white325is) stopped by as did my friend johnny. Pleasant distractions really with the heat.
anyone have interest in an early FLO FIT seat?
ill get more photos. it has bolster wear of course.
anyways, got some metal cleaned up and poked around the rear and passenger side to find more. have to still pull the passenger fender to appropriately size that up. lots of outside rocker work needed.
hacked off the seat rail... will floor mount some recaros and possible retrofit a corrado rear seat back there as well.
this is more so on the firewall. deff was a previous patch job. some rust holes immediately afterwards.

not going to lie, this is a bigger bite then i planned on taking. however i have started, this i the project i wanted, and i should now see it through.. er i hope that i do.
i figure as long as i can make clean cuts that should keep reforming the patches to a simple level i will be okay. The shaping is my biggest fear. otherwise even the rust on 'significant' areas can be resolved at the moment.
crazy i bought this car because the clean shock towers and slight rocker rust.
...towers are still clean but damn everything else!

If you've got the resources to build a M10 I would definitely suggest taking a look at that route. The biggest draw to the M42 for myself was both the price and the ease of fuel injection for a DD.
In my case I was looking at about $250 for an entire M42 setup while a dual sidedraft setup would have been $500 alone. Dual Webers also have the tendency to be a little finicky, and I'll be driving the 02' every day. Every once and awhile I think about the ole' M10. Like I said, definitely keep the M10 in mind if you've got the resources for it. There's just something magical about a carbureted engine, but they may not appeal to you like they do to me.

i have picked up my argon bottle and solid wire for the welder and 16 gauge sheet metal for the unibody and under the fender structural area. I also have e21 hubs on the way and h4 headlights being shipping in from Germany. Need to grab a bending brake a metal sheer next week. also waiting for 20 gauge for the body areas to come int still.
mini vacation this weekend. off to wildwood NJ. Its torrential downpours here anyhow... hopefully its nicer a couple hours away..
