Yes it is very close... Those are just mock up pics. Won't know clearance until we find a different wheel. 2mm is enough between the spoke and caliper.These calipers don't move anywhere once mounted. Not a sliding caliper.

We have been doing lots of research looking for off the shelf rotors that will work with the 135 6 piston calipers on the E30 M3. The biggest issue with the M3 is there is VERY little clearance between the rotor and the tie rod. When you go with a really big rotor. The stock M3 rotor is very shallow, right around 40mm.
So after digging through lots and lots of different rotor specs for all different cars we think we have found something that will work. This rotor is 330mm by 28mm and NOT off a BMW. Once we know everything will work we will say what it is off of. We don't want misinformation out there. It is only 39mm deep so there is around 7mm of clearance at the tie rod.
Now this rotor will need some machining but it is close. The center bore will have to be opened up a little bit and the wheel studs will need to be ob-longed inward.
Ultra flat rotor.

Bolt holes are close...

Ground down the rub of the m3 bearing (will be replaced anyway) to be able to set the rotor flat against the hub.

Now this wheel will not clear the caliper. If you look there is some wood stacked to get it to clear. So we will need a different wheel setup. There is around 22mm of "spacer" right now.

Instead of trying and hoping on a bunch of different rotors, it honestly might be easier to run an AP or will wood rotor with a custom hat. Design the hat once and just buy replacement disc (cheap from willwood) instead of boring hubs or re drilling lug patterns at every brake maintenance interval.
I guess trying a few different rotors doesn't have the same constraints ($$$) when your a parts distribution kingpin...

Thanks Eric Im not opposed to buying new wheels.. I just had these and was trying to run these initially to keep costs down until I really found something unique. But I guess function is most important here I may look at some Apex once we get the rotors dialed inAre running M-systems a must? I found with willwood calipers and my old green m-systems, that I had to run a lot of spacer to clear the spokes. I remember running M-systems with 235/40/17 tires on the front of my old e30 M3 and the offset was already a bit tight. If you have to space the wheel away from the 135 caliper as much as I did with the willwoods, I really don't think it will fit unless you run some stupid 195/25/17 tires. Keep the stretch to butt holes only.Leave a comment:
