here's a quick vid i did of it a few months ago......
i've been doing a few things to it lately getting the car ready for its 'mot'
( road worthiness test), but also been a little busy with other things.....hoping to have it on the road for the summer though.......
Yeah there really are not all that many options as things are VERY close. I'm not worried about them being this close. In LSx builds myself and others use these same joints very close to the headers as well.
You might be able to insert some of that metal-clad fiberglass heat shielding between the header and linkage somehow, maybe wrap it around part of the header and secure with safety wire? Then again if the bearings are heat-resistant and don't use any type of lube, it may not be necessary.
Good thoughts.. Cats are cut off but still close to headers
I was worried about that too. Mine are nearly touching my headers. Not sure how EGT's compare from an m60 to an s85, but I haven't had any issues yet, after ~2 years and almost 20k miles. They still feel tight and smooth. Even if they died today, that's not a bad lifespan, considering there's not really any other option. I don't know about you guys, but there is absolutely nothing I can do to get more clearance between the header and steering shaft.
Just a thought: what temps are those u-joint and the heim joint in your steering linkage rated to? I'm not sure just how hot the cats on a modern V10 get, but something tells me it's a lot. Will having them 1/2" away cause issues? If there's any type of lubricant it would vaporize out pretty quick. Maybe a heat shield or wrap is needed? Just thinking out loud.

there's a lot going on the back of MSS6x as well. also having all the coil drivers built into the ion sensing control unit which is bolted to the engine makes things a little cleaner.
Thanks for all of the pics and info in your updates. I learn a lot from builds like these that are so well documented. I had no idea you could use multiple u-joints in a steering shaft (I assume that's what the locating bearing is for).
Yes the locator is to keep them all in place. The way I learned was from reading lots of build threads so I like to post lots of pictures and explain things as well.
