This weekend involved a bunch of grinding and cutting to get the XXR's to fit, by the end of the weekend.
I started in the front cutting the unibody to allow for turning, this is what the hole wound up looking like I tried to avoid cutting off half the front unibody the way the drift guys do:
which allows for 90% of my max steering at this ride height: (I have a 3.25 lock to lock rack and I can get 3 turns)
The fronts somewhat complete (still needed to do the fenders themselves at this point) I moved onto the back, the initial cut looked good:
But that wasn't high enough, for the 2nd cut I did only the outer skin (I also learned during this cut that wires lay inside this area, whoops!) leaving the inner skin which I notched and bent over to weld into place before seam sealing:
Checking clearance with the suspension fully bottomed out:
The rears completed it was time to move back to the front and get the fenders themselves to fit, after cutting we used a socket to roll the lip up/out to avoid cutting the tire should a bumpstop fail and cause contact with the tire:
Unfortunately the front flares aren't quite as wide as the rears, a combination of grinding the flare inner lip and a small spacer to push the front corner of the fender out by 10mm allows clearance to turn fully bottomed out as shown above. I happened to have this carbon fiber tubing laying around from another project I'm working on so why not, becauseracecar?
While I was working on the fender flares my good buddy Brian was working on running the remainder of the needed dash wires, cleaning up the engine harness and wiring up my new switch panel, he got all of that done and the car even started on the first try!
my friend Brad helped mount up the electric fan, run for parts and can order pizza like nobodies business:
A few other misc pictures from the weekend Thanks to my buddy Andrew and his fancy pants camera:
Pictures of the car on the ground coming soon!-Brad

Love it man! looks great. So are you running Ka motors standard flares? could you have ran the ultra wides and done less modifying in the fenderwells?sigpic

keep in mind I'm testing and modifying these wheels to fit with the suspension fully maxed out and worst case scenario, for a street driven vehicle less cutting might be acceptable, the 17x10 et2 doesn't rub at all when the car is sitting at its ride height, the more I compressed the more I had to cut. As it sits now with no springs in place I can jack up the control arms and the bump stops will compress and lift the car off the ground before the tire touches metal, this is what I wanted to acheive, its probably a bit overkill but a $2 grinding wheel and some sheet metal is a lot cheaper than replacing a cut tire!
This picture also shows the 2 other spots I had to cut, theres a lip of sheetmetal at both spots which I removed, the top one might not've needed to be removed but the "rear" piece definitely did.

Thanks! I kept wishing the fronts were just a smidge wider! after shaving a little bit of the inner lip off them they fit the fronts just fine though!-Brad

A few people wanted better pictures of the flares so I tried to capture overall fitment now that its on the ground, just need to finish tucking the wiring and it's ready for a maiden voyage on the new wheels!
