I've been pseudo-following this on Flickr. I didn't even know you had a r3v thread. Nice!

Ummmmmm yeah why not. But don't take them off until you start rust repair. leave them on for now since they do keep water out of the holes that are there. If I remember, I'll remind you in a month or three. I appreciate the kind gesture. Contact me if you need weird, obscure parts that are easy to ship. I got you.

Great progress and love the patina! Reminds me of the '02 we just picked up. What did you find worked best to get the dents out of the center grill? Careful hammer work?

Now that I've finished S50 swapping my brother's E30 I'm back to this. The first thing I wanted to do was replace the cracked windshield and the almost non existent rubber seal.

The top of the windshield looked the worst:

Despite being cracked the windshield came out in one piece:

What ended up being the worst rust areas where at the bottom corners of the windshield:

The top was actually fairly clean, and the bottom cleaned up nicely:

But looking underneath the dash on passenger side, I could spy some real corrosion:

                        So out came the dash:

                        Real Rust

                        How much metal was left

After removing as much rust as I could, I sprayed these bare areas with anti-rust protection spray and will be working on patching up these holes shortly.

                              Removing the corroded metal:

                              Before

                              After

                              Before

                              After

The metal after being treated with anti-rust spray
