Ghetto E30 Auto-x Car (on a poor college kid's budget)

Well, Ive been on this forum for a while now but haven't had the energy to put together a build thread. I guess it's kinda too late for that as I think Im going to keep my current setup until at least the end of summer.

Got the car in late October. Limped it all the way home. Had a blown HG and the throwout bearing froze up, which in turn destroyed the pressure plate. The clutch was non existant. Arrived at my house at 12:00 PM and started striping it down immediately.

I removed the fenders. Totally striped the interior. Replaced rusted sheet metal and POR15'd almost every inch of the damn thing.

[IMG][/IMG] ^ The car that started my love affair with BMWs. 5-speed swap with automatic 3.46 differentials. OH BABY. She could launch.

I decided not to swap the motor right off the bat because I really want to learn how to drive the car at the limit with what it has. You know, the better driver mod? car control is everything.

Not sure what my next move on the build will be after paint. I picked up an M30 B34 with a freshly rebuilt head and an HX40 turbo. So it's very likely Ill be be turboed next year. If I do go that route it will be non intercooled with a low boost setup. 300hp is plenty for me. (for now at least) Not a huge fan of turbo motors but you cant argue with the performance figures per$$$. spent. I still like the idea of a High comp N/A m30B34 with ported head, 290ish cam, B35 valves, and VW 94mm pistons.

    We shall see.

Ill post more pictures as soon as I get the chance.

    Well........

My M42 shit itself after the first night of running hard

After this short experience I've determined that it is a piece of worthless garbage with a shittily designed timing case.

M30 swap will be coming sooner than anticipated.

Well, that escalated quickly. Looks like a good start, I'll be interested to see what comes out of this.

Got a free E36 M42 to throw in the car while I build the M30. Couldn't pass it up. It decent compression but there was quite a bit of gunk buildup in the head and sump.

            Plans for the M30
-B34 head port matched to B35 manifold
            -B35 dual valve springs.
-B35 pistons (should give me 9.8ish-1 compression)
            -Used Bavauto headers
            -Free-flowing exhaust with X pipe.
            -IE 284 cam

-Have no idea what to do as far as engine management. Probably ms1

All the money that Ive been saving for paint is going towards the new motor. I'm thinking about plastidipping it. We'll see.

The first car I ever rode in was an e30
