      I bought $455 worth of audio stuff today to bypass the factory amp and add more power to the speakers. I only bought 2 way component speakers for the front, and haven't bought anything for the back yet. At some point Ill by newer speakers for the back as well as adding a Luke Box and sub.

      -Kenwood Excelon KDC-X597 CD Receiver
      -Polk Audio db5251 5-1/4" Component System
      -Alpine KTP-445U Head Unit Power Pack 45W x 4 Car Amp
      -Scosche SLC4 Speaker to RCA Four Channel Line output converter
      Plus wire and some installation stuff

      Hope it sounds good. I have never done anything bigger than a head unit and basic speakers before. Should be fun.

        So when I did the stereo in the 1994 530i I just got it had cheep Auto Zone speakers in the back and the front mid range and tweeters in the front were blown. I went to the junk yard and grabbed all 6 stock speakers for about $30! I installed them all along with a Kenwood KDC X997 and a cheep 12" Pyle sub in a G.A.S Box (Luke Box) powered by a Mono 300 Watt Kicker amp. I didn't bypass the stock amp and have all the stock speakers and it sounds amazing with Luke's box and with the headunit tuned just right! No need to spend tons of money! Headunit-$200 Subwoofer-$30 Sub Box-$300 Amp-$200 Stock Speakers-$30. I'm happy I only spent about $700. I've gathered these parts over the past 3 years so it doesn't seem like much to me and the stereo sounds amazing. Now I just need Luke's $300 Crossover and I'll be perfect.

          I dont want to use factory speakers from the junk yard. Seams silly like using an old timing belt on a 100% new turbo engine. They most likely sat out in the sun and already have 18 years of use on them. Id rather spring for decent new speakers.
          After reading a few build threads and DIY pages about the e34 sound system it sounded like the stock amp was under powered and the crossovers were not of the highest quality. Thats why I decided to go with the extra power from the Alpine Power Pack and the cross overs sold with the Polk speakers. It would be really interesting to compare the sound on our systems after mine is put together because I dont think the price differences will be that huge. Maybe a few hundred at most.
          Mine will be $455 for the head unit and front speaker system and maybe another $400 for the rear speakers, amp, and Luke Box/Sub. Some where around $900 total, and it sounds like with the Luke crossover system you will be spending right around the same amount of money.
          Im really new to audio so Im just learning.

            I'm not super into audio either but Luke has walked me through all of my stereo troubles and has been a huge help. And my dad is a professional sound engineer and he likes my stereo. It's crisp and clear with no crackles or pops, no alternator wine, and it goes loud enough to drive on the freeway with all the windows down and still sound clear and not distorted. I'm content with the way it is and how cheep it was =) And I'd love to compare them! If you need any help with wiring or install I've gotten really good at it =P

                  I went last year and it was GREAT! Lots of amazing cars and its smaller and friendlier then Bimmerfest with less e92 bros
                  The Central Meeting Point for the Vintage BMW Community. The SoCal Vintage BMW Meet is always the first Saturday in November so it will be the same weekend as the France and Italy car show which is always the first SUNDAY, in the same location – A great European car weekend!

                          In other news I lost all the air in my drivers side front tire after hitting a pothole on an on ramp today because of the dam low profile tires. I need different wheels/tires bad. Pick N Pull trip this Sunday to San Jose.

                            I might be picking up another e34 for a parts car with some wheels on it. He said it'll come with the stock wheels but idk what they look like.

                              I just got a set of stock weaves with tires off of Craigslist for $250. Then I can decide what I want to do with the wheels I have. I still kind of want to dechrome them and powder coat them bronze
