I got to say I am very unhappy with my e34 right now. I thought it would be a solid driver but its been nothing but a pain in the ass. One problem after the other.

      Problems as of now.
-Power steering goes pssssssshhhhhhhh when turned all the way to the right, not the left. This is after topping off the fluid because it was whining.
-Open door light comes on even though all doors are firmly shut.
-Brake circuit light comes on even though all brake lights work
-Check engine light is on and stomp test will not work
-Traction control light is on no idea why
-That button that gets pushed when the gas pedal is all the way down does not put the car in a lower gear and help you speed up

Iv lost all interest in this thing because its such a pain in my ass. I dont have the money to have some one ells fix it for me, and I cant find anyone with an OBD1 code reader. I asked O'reilly if they will read my codes, and they are not aloud to do that in CA.

Don't give up hope! With the light it's usually switch in the same with my e34. And the break light warning means you have a non oem bulb in. It will usually work fine but trip the circuit.

I feel your pain man, my lady's new touring is giving me hell. Just replaced basically the entire ignition system and it starts now but I suspect that the trans is toast. I didn't know the auto trans in these is such a weak point, wish I would've discovered that earlier. Glad to see you're not giving up, it'll be a solid driver once the little kinks are sorted.

Yeah I think mine is dying right now. Shifts very heavily and jurks into gear, as well as changing gears at odd times.
I am to used to simple cars that have only what they need to work with very little bells and whistles. This e34 is so sensitive. :???:

I got all the front suspension stuff done today. Man I love my electric torque wrench!
Its weird how the e34 has a steering system a lot like the 2002. This was my first time under the car checking stuff out so it was kind of fun to see the design.
Also why does the alternator have a cooling system that lets air in through the front of the car? Does it really get that hot? Iv never seen that on any other car.

Difference between the Bilstein Sports that were in the car compared to the Bilstein Touring struts that went in.

Was it time for some new suspension parts? YES! These sway bar end links were soooo dead.

Is it normal to have 3 of one kind and 1 of another of these coils? Its the same thing on both sides.

I really need help with this. I have done a bunch of searching on Google using a bunch of different combinations of words, and I can not find the info I need.
I pulled the codes on my '95 e34 530it today and got a throttle position sensor code and a CAN message code. The TB sensor I know how to fix, but I have no idea what to do about the CAN bus.
As fare as I can tell the CAN bus is some sort of electrical module between the transmission control module and the transmission which lets the two communicate with each other. Its some sort of digital translator or something.
I can not find a picture of the part or a part number, or anyone ells who has had the same code pop up.
Do any of you guys know where the CAN bus is located, and what it looks like? Maybe a part number? Does it have a different name that I dont know which is not letting me search for the right thing?
Just went through RealOEM and can not find any mention of this part there in ether the Auto Trans section or Gearshift section.

Just a shot in the dark but could it be related to the gear selector switch? http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-E32-E34-...-/140687774996

The contacts get dirty and causes the trans to act up. Not sure if that has anything to do with your problems but it might be worth checking out

                                .........

It works! And how it works! Sounds frickin amazing, and Im only running front speakers. Im going to order some rear speakers today. Ones I sell these style 37 wheels I can afford a Luke box and a sub with a small amp. PUMPED!

So it turned out some of the original BMW wires got mixed up in their loom. Some of the head unit out put wires got mixed into the speaker input wire loom and were the same colors. I had to go through with my multimeter and check each wire along with a wire color guide. Wasnt hard, just a pain in the ass. Well worth the trouble.

The little tiny brick sized Alpine amp is insane and fits in very sneaky places. Glove box, behind a head unit in the dash, behind a trunk panel under a seat, and so on. Its not going to brake windows, but it triples the power of any head unit it is compatible with which is most head units including stock units. I highly recommend them to anyone doing an e30 install sins they save so much rooms, and can run 4 speakers (two 2 way component systems). You will need a small amp to run a sub if you choose to do so. But ones of these Alpine KTP-455U head unit power packs and a 1 channel amp for a sub will still save money and room in your car.

The Kenwood functions really nicely with my iPhone (calls, Pandora, iTunes) and I am sure would work just as well with an Android phone. Plus it has almost exactly the same color setting as the stock BMW interior lights, so it matches well. Looks classy and trashy.

Im happy with all my wiring even though it took a long time. Everything is going to fit in the factory location. Ones I get the second set of cross overs for the rear speakers Im going to build a new rack for all the hardware. Should be cleaner.

No pictures of the speakers as they are all hiding behind factory grills as they should be. They sound soooooooo good. :nice:
Your thread makes me regret selling my e34t. Our stereo setup look awfully similar.

I had matching two ways and spare tire well mounted sub in mine. Hands down, best sounding stereo I've built for a car.

                                Keep up the awesome work!!
