Right. I'm guessing it would not be pressurized then?

      Makes sense.

no, it's pressurized. both the feed and return of the oil filter housing are pressurized, since it's the same fluid stream of oil coming up from the pump.

it's the same pressure as up by the pressure switch. the only non-pressurized oil in the M30 is in the bottom of the head, the oil drain down the passenger side of the block, and in the pan.

Ah I see now. I might use that port then for an oil temp sender if I can safely tap it out to 1/8 NPT.

you can always tap the lid, its simple and easy;you can always grab another lid if you change your plans, tested it without turbo and it cranks out a ton of oil even at idle.

Looking good, definitely an interesting take on the m30.

Have an m106 with the stock kkk in my e34, it's small but I love it.

Kind of blury but you get the idea.

Also I have some extra m106 bits lying around. Let me know if you need anything!

what kind of fitting did you use? I can't quite tell in the pic.

While I wait for parts to arrive for the boost control and oil feed systems, I figured it was time to mount the inter cooler. Thankfully I work at a metal shop, so some 14ga 301 stainless was just a trip to the recycling bin away. Measure, shear, drill, etc.

I'll be using these two stock points. Airbag sensor bracket and lower washer fluid bracket

So with a bit of drilling, cutting, bending and twisting:

Add to that the intake and outlet fittings, and it's secured at 4 points. It's not structural but it will sure work for IC duty. It's all still dirty and nasty of course, so the plan is to do some deep cleaning in the engine bay while the IC is out for coating.

I'm going to recommend you don't get the intercooler coated. Anything you put on it is going to reduce it's effectiveness, especially something thick like powdercoat.

If it has to be black, i would use a thin coat of paint.

Never heard of an IC being coated. Certainly would not help its function.

There are special heat-rejecting coatings available. Think of it like the heat-insulating ceramic coatings you can get for your exhaust, but the opposite. The same shop that's doing my ceramic coating offers this type too, so I figured 'while I'm in there...'

Thermal Barrier products significantly reduce heat transfer of components that operate at elevated temperatures. These coatings are used extensively in the

                              I understand insulating.

But the opposite seems to defy logic. What is the name of the product or service which is to improve cooling?

See my post above. The coatings are by a company called Cerakote, which is actually located here in Portland. They offer various types of coatings for insulation, friction reduction, heat dissipation, etc.

Great shipping on Performance Cerakote Coatings. Our protective coatings are engineered to have both exceptional corrosion resistance and impressive cosmetic appearance.
