This weekend resulted in a few more changes. Managed to clean up and mount the 3.73 and also cleaned up the box which has had seals replaced and is also ready to be bolted up to the motor. Also swapped out the struts for the 51mm units. Need to just finish up mounting the new Z3 rack then we're ready to drop in the motor.

Aussie late model coupe build
Finally time for an update!
My M20 flywheel went on a bit of a diet, didn't want to go overboard with the machining as I didn't want to sacrifice any drivability. Unfortunately I didn't weigh before and after but there was quite a bit of material removed.
The motor and gearbox have finally gone in too after a few stalling points. Nothing too tricky was just supplied the incorrect clutch.
Here it is with the motor and gearbox finally in the car.
The proper clutch ;)
Great feel with the Z3 1.9 shifter and solid bushes installed.
That's it for now, getting very close to being able to drive.

Aussie late model coupe build
Managed to finally fit the steering rack and get all the lines hooked up today. I used the standard steering linkage/shaft which I didn't think would be the case based on all the things I've heard and read. The lines took a bit of massaging but I ended up using the standard E30 lines with one of the lines from my E34 donor (reservoir to pump).
I also got the JOM's mounted up front, ran out of time to do the rear but I'm pretty happy with the way it sits on the bottlecaps for now until I mount my RS reps.
As it sits in snowplough stance...
I'm hoping to get the wiring loom sorted and in next week, getting closer to turning the key.
Also had a bit of a delay fitting the tail shaft as I needed to change the centre bearing due to it coming out of a series 1 323i.

Went with them as I needed to replace front shocks anyway. I've heard arguments for and against. Car is going to be my daily and rarely, if ever, see a track.
I'll see how they go, if I don't like them I'll just change them out. I see no point in buying an expensive, no doubt very capable, set of coilovers for everyday use.
So to answer the why;
1. They aren't leaking like the clapped out old ones.
2. They lower the car
3. They don't cost more than the purchase price of the car itself.
4. They're all I need at this point in time for what I'll be doing with the car.

Few updates since my last post.
- tailshaft is in, had to machine the output shaft as the G260 was out of an E34
- heat shield and front pipe are in
- altered wiring to allow the car to start (was auto)
- bolted on all ancillaries
- installed rear suspension
- STARTED CAR!!
Sounds pretty good....without the rest of the exhaust.
Still have to plumb up the cooling system and put the interior together but hopefully its first drive will happen soon.

Some good work going on here!
Be careful when you first drive with the JOMs until you get a good sense of how the car behaves. I guy I met over here in Adelaide has them, and he found that his car skips around a lot on the road. e30s shouldn't skip around AT ALL - in this case the coil overs gave "plenty of low" but terrible handling (could be that he just needs bump steer spacers to fix his front end geometry).
My car has Eibachs / Bilsteins (ie. not coil overs) and has no issues like that.Comment
