Euro smileys

Installed some euro smileys off of sskoda. Still need to make connectors for the city lights.

Connectors made. Realized that I had smaller connectors on the last pigtail...

Installed. Bolts right up.


Cleaned up the euro grills, but I still need to paint them. It's been raining too much to get it done.
Painted bumper. just need to finish it. debating on euro trim now or later.

City lights

Cut the 1/4" male connectors down to a 1/8" connector to fit the side marker plug.


Wired right up. unfortunately missing the harness for the other one right now.

Timesert

Every valve cover bolt was stripped and glued into place... So begins the TIMESERT. First hole took forever, but it became easy after a couple.



Also when driving the timesert on the m42, you have too make sure to stop when the driver hits the bottom of the hole. My driver went right through the bottom of a bolt hole...

Also do I need to re-RTV this or none at all? The last person who worked on this car over torqued everything and put stuff on backwards so I don't know if the m42 really needs it or not.

Suspicion confirmed. noisy timing chain. Looks like the sprockets are starting to canoe and become pointy.

Repainted euro grill and trim.

Euro Grill and Trim install

Finished off the stripped valve cover holes. Had to unbolt and push back the upper intake manifold in order to get my drill to fit over the holes. Replaced the gaskets.

Installed Euro grills and refurb'd US trim. Just sold a mint condition 2002 dash, so I'll probably use it to buy some euro trim.

Turd polishing

1 coat rubbing compound and 2 coats wax with the $20 orbital buffer from walmart.

Reverse light harness

Reverse light wiring was split in half and the live side was touching the exhaust shorting fuse #21. Easy fix, but you can replace the harness with p/n 23141220263.



Spliced in some new wire with solderless connectors and wrapped.

Now to repair the euro clock and probably the tach that the loose wire shorted...

Quick tidbit of advice: rubbing compound is far too aggressive for most automotive paints. Try a medium-cut polish, then a fine polish, then wax. You'll get much better results that look less cloudy, and won't run as much risk of damaging the paint.
