I didn't bring any of my tools because I left the house at 6am and can barely function at that time of day. I barely remembered to bring a change of clothes and now that I think about it, I didn't remember to bring different shoes.

I might swing by HF and buy you a hand sledge.

        Nice progress throughout today.

With my prep work, Kershaw was able to drive out that LCA spindle with a whack of the sledge. We ended up taking the front strut assembly out to get a better whack at it. It worked! Thank you!!

After seeing some dirty strut tubes... I figured take out the other one, too, for a good paint. Now, both are in the trunk where they will be chauffered to the local self serve car wash for a good scrub. Gives me time to get the LCABs pressed into the lollipops... thank you again to Kershaw.

Now the steering rack is out.... I just may see if I can find that E46 steering rack. This project stuff is tricky. I don't know when to say no. Just get it while the getting is good! I need the motor in... I need to get this thing on the road... but I just want to do everything right along the way. From a simply strip and clean, or restore threads or totally replace or upgrade..

Power steering pump and associated bits came in. I think i will rebuild it. Just another project.

Banging out the LCA meant removing the strut assembly. Once that was out, I figured clean it up and paint it. So I removed the other side, too. They were wore wheeled, pressure washed and scrubbed, taped off and wiped down for a good spray of rust preventative and a gloss black to match original sheen.

Front end components are looking clean! Get the LCAs back and start putting things together.

Soft brake lines are cracking. It would be best to replace them. Another $100. This is getting silly now. Also, will subject the brake calipers to electrolysis, then paint. Thinking silver. May do gloss black.

Do you plan to use steel breaded lines for your brakes?

The struts are look nice painted.

I'd prefer OEM but I fear the price. I need to shop around.

The SS lines on the E38 fit well, are doing the job and look great. Perhaps I will get a set for the E30.

Raul, how do you tend to clean all of your parts as they arrive or you install them?

Ordered brake lines all around. They are not SS.

Also ordered a power steering pump reseal kit. The PS looks to be in good shape. I just want to reseal it while it is available.. and I am a sucker for little side projects along the way.

Still have not made the trip to the JY for that E46 rack. If it is still there when I show up, it is a sign. I will take it and use it. I need new tie rod ends anyhow. Just a difference if I get the E30 or E36 ones for the E46 rack. New crush washers are just as cheap at my dealer and will be needed (32411093596 x4, 32411093597 x4) This will make for a huge upgrade as I will have the hoses rebuilt and have a new reservoir.

Need to determine best way to clean up wheel wells. The black undercoating is nasty.

Will set up electrolysis for the brake calipers. Rebuild as necessary. I need a trip to HD for some re-bar and a bucket to accomplish that.

Using the thread restoring kit on all the bolts being reused. Fresh or refreshened hardware makes me smile. Simple pleasures in life.

Subframe back in. LCAs attached at all the points. Steering rack back in place (still may swap so I did not attache TREs). Brake calipers are in an electrolysis bath and will be cleaned for paint. Likely just a silver ... maybe gloss black. Rehang them with new lines. Sway end links are new and in place. I stopped at the sway bar. The new bushings are of course fat and for fitment the bar will require wrangling. Save that fun for later.

I have yet to touch the wiper mechanism. Blah.

Front right caliper is drying with its base coat as I type. I like the flat black but I do not think all black everything is what I want. These will get painted silver. A thought was gloss white :-). Still time to decide.

The Rein brake lines for $5 each are super. I feel like I got a real deal. I'll share photos when I get to mounting the brakes again.

Once I get the front end done, into the M30. Starting with resealing the power steering pump.

Gloss white would be pretty pimp. Hard to keep clean though.

Some more parts are on the way. :-) Things Raul may not even have...

Plan is to tackle some maintenance on the M30. I have been reading around, trying to learn more about the engine. Banjo oiler bar needing torqued ( I have new PN bolts), new intake boots, valve adjustment, still trying to sort out the PS pump as the one I bought is not complete, new belts and even remove the intake for a good refinishing.

New front sway bar bushing shackles are at the dealer for me. See if that makes the install of the sway any easier. Otherwise, will need to get medieval.

Wife said for birthday I could have it resprayed. I then told her general cost of a respray.. she fell out.. and I found a good compromise in just the right time.. more to follow.

On sway bars should not be hard to install.
