Silver. Keeping it simple. Try to keep it classy.

I hope that wiper arm does the trick. Most expensive wiper arm I've ever run across.. I hope it works as is!!!

No word from the welder. He is hooking me up and I do think want to put any rush on him.

My friend Jim made a copy of my ACS mono wiper linkage. It cost as much as my real ones. Can't complain about it. He did awesome job. Wait until you look for ACS mirrors?$$$$

Mirrors don't do anything for me. The stockmirrors are a defining feature to me.

And I've seen the prices.1000€. No thanks!!

More parts were sent off to Dave @ Renewed Finishes. I just can't have a gem of a valve cover with a turd of a thermostat housing or alternator bracket... this motor swap has become so much more than I thought.. or could have imagined. It is fun, though.

Buttoned up the front end, to the point I can put the bottlecaps back on, make it a roller and say let it out of the garage, prepare the motor for reassembly and dropping it back in where it belongs. A lot of local interest, neighbors have wondered WTH I am doing, why I have an engine lift sitting around.. old time car guys.. folks who want to tackle a project but never did, BMW enthusiasts.. so I think the motor drop in day will be a cookout and a chance to have some beers and even get around to dropping in a driveline. Kershaw for sure will be there doing the heavy lifting; I'll man the grill.

Still cleaning engine. Preparing for some paint.. and the goodies to come back from RF.. I have a basket full off gaskets, etc. Still need to order a few more things. If I was more organized I would have made a list, done one large order.. but.. I am not. Maybe the next car.

The dipstick tube.. any one with experience replacing one? It does not seem willing to pull out.. it seemed I could lift the engine using the thing as a hold. Maybe I just need to not fix it...

Everything car related takes 4x as long and 3x the money. It's really the only real constant in the universe. Light speed isn't accurate enough.

You have to shake the crap out of it to get it to loosen up. I know it may be frowned upon, but go to a junkyard and pull one. You don't even need to buy it- just go pull it and get the feel for how it releases.

I have bought 2 engines for ~$50 each, just to practice taking them apart. I actually bought a nearly-complete-but-not-running e30 for $125 and took it apart, just to know how things come apart so that I don't break the e30 that I was trying to restore. I used my parts cars as testers for how to do the real work on the project car.

Living in D.C. you don't have the option of a spare car sitting around but a junkyard can serve the same function.

I found a honey hole of BMW junkyard. The price was right so I am doing this:

                  A Z3 non-M rack.

                  So I bought these:

Same kit. Yeah do it while the motor is out and you will be good. Good time to put them new sb shackles in too ;) a slide hammer would help a lot but not needed.

Just saw you got the front end all buttoned back up. That kinda sucks. I did mine with the subframe and all that out of the car. Pulled it all together and put back the same way.

I bought the same kit to install my e36 non-M rack. Install will be exactly the same.

Here was my writeup on the modification. Starts on this page and rolls to the next.

All told it was about 4-6 hours of work. I did it with the motor and subframe still in place.

It is not too much. Motor is still out. Easy enough. Looks like wat does suck is I just bought E30 TREs. Need likely to get new TREs for Z3 rack.

Thank you. Seems a lot of your labor was removing TREs with rack off the car, the fact the motor was in the way and the kit not having the right size bolts. I expect and plan none of those to be and issue for me!

Maybe the salvaged rack will come with TREs in good nick. (E36 TRE R 32111139314, L 32111139315)

I used e30 TREs on my swap. E30 inner and outer.
