I was out mountain biking on Saturday....and then it snowed today. Midwest weather is for the birds.

I was in DC all week (thats the other hard part about working on the car I travel a lot!) and it was freezing there!

I have no idea lol! He left the head unit and the speakers, but there were no amps in the car so I never actually heard the system. I cant imagine it did, it may have been loud but the way he had the speakers mounted in the door it probably didnt sound great.

As for the alarm, I like it, mostly because it was super cheap, the keyfob looks pretty nice and it unlocks and locks the doors. Its not fancy, I just wanted something that could remotely unlock the doors. The car wont be a daily.

Damn! I bet it was loud. A 15 in an e30 is too much lol.

And, that's good to hear about the alarm. I'm thinking of buying an Encore E3 but I'm not looking forward to the wiring. Your diagram definitely helps though!

I can't believe all the headaches you had with the wiring. Did the previous owner's stereo actually sound good? Also wondering how you like the alarm system? I'm thinking about adding an alarm to mine.

Use some sort of automotive paint prep solvent (wax/grease remover) with heavy towels to remove anything on the surface. For example I used this on my last engine bay project:

You want to use a prep solvent that does not leave a residue. Once cleaned, scuff with a scotchbrite pad, repeat the cleaning step, tape and shoot.


The rockers can take a beating from road debris so it is a good area to shoot with a 2K automotive urethane paint. I am planning to use this product on my car:

You might be able to find a local paint shop that sells the SprayMax 2k product line.

Thanks! I will look into that. Its only temporary and will get covered up by the Mtech II just depends If I have the money for a full repaint this year.

you can sand it off but the rubber coating will be a PITA. you can reapply the coating and paint.

or just clean and paint over the white :-)
