Project Lessmeister: 91 318iS Restomod w/ MTech2 and modern drivetrain
5th evening working on the car after its been back from paint, and again more progress. Even though I can only throw 3hrs or so at it an evening after my work day it still adds up.
This evening I applied some Second Skin Alpha Damp in a few locations on the floor pan of the car. I had a good bit of it left over from my E39's audio installation. I applied it in the same general locations as the factory laid down their brick-tar sound deadener and rolled it down into all of the contours.
The like magic I dropped the brand new black OE carpet into place. Only not quite that easy. The foam on the back side gets a really good grip against the fresh paint and it was difficult to maneuver forward into the correct position but I got it eventually. Once situated I pulled the wiring up through the precut slots in the carpet.
Heat core hose grommet snapped into place:
Rebuilt IHKS unit set into place and bolted down:
I'm VERY glad that I decided to rebuild the IHKS while the car was away at paint. It took me nearly a week of evening work and a whole weekend to completely rebuild it, and it would suck to have to devote a week to it at this present time!
I also managed to refit the windshield wiper transmission/motor into the cowl prior to installing the IHKS but I did not take a picture of that, too dark at the front of the car.... Even with the IHKS out of the way the linkage is such a tight fit, but with some care I managed to get it in without scratching the fresh paint.

I wanted to get the window trim painted but its been raining, the humidity is over 90% and it was causing the test sprays to have white blushing problems. Perhaps tomorrow.
I jumped around a lot today working on different things.
New headlamp bracket speed nuts, these are always corroded:
Two more brackets from the donor dash needed to be swapped over and riveted to the new dash. The holes in the metal dash frame are covered in foam so you have to poke around a little to find them.
Now to reinstall the pedal box, with new pedal covers. The steering column went in with it.
Back to the dashboard, last minute prep work. New wire ties for the underside of the dash. These are often broken. They look like those used elsewhere but the clasps on them to lock into the dashboard are unique to this location on the car.
The two on the center duct as the same as used in the engine bay that snap in.
and finally... the dashboard is in place!
Nasty old headlight switch knob next to the new one:
New knob installed on the switch in a new switch panel next to a new turn signal stalk. Love the fresh screen printing that hasn't been rubbed off from age.
