    From Parts car to Lambo

Yesterday a friend of mine and I went to go pick up a 'shell' outside of Houston.

I located this car through someone I had bought some parts off of for my e30 m3. He texted me asking if I knew anyone that wanted a 'shell'.. he was willing to give it away for free if someone would come get it out of the back of his shop. I had an interest as I'm doing some rust repair and a rust free shell would be handy for some floor boards and things like that. I agreed to come check it out and had planned to take a few things and part it out.

When I arrived we found this. A complete 325is roller, w/engine and 5spd trans out, 108k miles, nice interior, full set of books... Everything to put the car back together appears to be there. No accidents, completely rust free. Paint looks like it will clean up good (aside from from bumper)..

The catch is, no title. Owner says he lost it and didn't want to deal with it as it was going to be a project car (track I guess?) and he never transferred it to his name when he bought the car in 2009, it's been sitting since then.. This was fine with us as we were going to chop the car and part it for a small profit.

Anyway his story about the previous owner checks out and we have her contact info so we thought the car is so nice it would be a shame to scrap it. We are going to try and contact the PO and get the title some how to save this car.

After unloading the car and having a few drinks while feeling like Wayne Carini and giving ourselves a pat on the back for our successful 'barn find' we decided to take on a little challenge. We are going to take this $0 e30, put it back together, sell it, take money and continue to flip and see how far we can get building the empire. All really depends on the title, if we can get it we'll probably resell as a track car or donor..

It may be quite some time before an update but I'll let everyone know how she turns out! Wish us luck!

    Stay tuned.

Yes well as I said there were a few drinks involved.. lol.. we both have full time jobs that are much more lucrative than flipping e30's but are gonna kick around with this on the side for some fun and see where it goes.. If it turns out nice I may very well keep it and buy him out of the 'empire' or issue him some sort of credit default swap ;) .. he did provide the tow rig..

Finally got around to getting this thing out of the trailer. Gave her a good pressure wash and started to figure out what parts are needed. The motor is out of the car. Waiting on an oil pump and some other bits to come in to get the pan back on and see if she will start.

          Parts in;
          - Front struts (PO had coilovers on the car which he cut off to put on an e34) I had to take the struts off my m3 so we could roll this thing on to the trailer. She is now standing on her own two feet again. For some reason one of the struts we got doesn't appear to have the mounting point for the abs sensor. Not sure why but hoping to figure that issue out so we can retain all the working original parts.
-Oil pan - but when we went to put it back on we realized it's also missing the oil pump and jack shaft.
          - All new belts, filters, oil, fluids, and required gaskets

          Also on order
          - new front rotors / pads
          - fan clutch assembly - PO had rigged it up to run continuously
          - AFM - was missing
          - various other misc parts.

Still trying to source a rear end and a new bumper cover.

Here she is after a bit of cleaning. Better pics to follow

you better not chop this car up. I would fugging KILL for a shell in this good of shape. my 308,000 mile s50 swap car isint in as good of a shape as this.

you probably have the strut from a non ABS car.

Won't be chopped. Trying to get it running and then I may sell it or put it in storage until I have time to bring it back.

Changed the timing belt, put in a new oil pump, replaced the cracked oil pan and dropped the motor in on Sunday.

Swapped the struts back to 4 lug, put on new front rotors and pads.

Got it to fire up on starting fluid but trying to track down a bad electrical connection that is causing a no start condition, seems to be the injectors are not firing. Fuel and spark are good..

Also cut a buffed a small the rear quarter to see if the paint would come back and it appears to come back nicely.

Waiting on some more parts to come in but she is coming along.

Finally got her started today. Ran through hours of troubleshooting trying to figure out why the plugs were dry. Finally determined it was the last item in the chain.. the injectors.. they were not opening cause they had been sitting so long.. Anyway, now she purs! just need to get an exhaust on her and take it for an Italian tune up.

She is no longer 'free' at about 1k in parts so far but still well worth it.

                      So far replaced the following;

                      Front Struts/Springs
Differential 3.73 LDS (PO had 4.10 open in it)
                      Timing belt
                      PS Belt
                      Acc belt
                      Fuel filter
                      Oil Pan
                      Oil Pan Gasket
                      Front lower is lip
                      Oil filter + Oil
                      Coolant
                      Motor Mounts
                      AFM + Filter
                      Oil Pump
                      Exhaust downpipe, AM cat
                      Hood/Trunk emblem
                      Trans mounts
                      Front Rotors / Pads
                      driveshaft centering sleeve
                      Exhaust hangar
                      giubo
                      exhaust gaskets
                      Trans crossmember
                      Spark plugs
                      Radiator hoses
                      Air intake boot
                      high beam bulbs
                      radiator

She is almost road worth! Then its time for a good detail and more pics.

Apparently we have a mutual acquaintance.. I was picking up some parts from Pete on Pinemont today and we got to talking about your build thread... Hope to see that car some time!

I think I figured out the picture sharing issue so here are a few of the car.

                              When we picked it up

At the shop on the lift getting her ready for motor.

                              Motor in

                              wish I had gotten a photo but we didn't have an engine hoist so we dropped the motor in with one of these;

And then we got her running after chasing an electrical issue for hours then finally figured out all the injectors were plugged and not opening. Couldn't figure out why we weren't getting fuel and that was it! Cleaned them and ran some current through them to verify they were clicking and she fired right up

Then it was time for some donuts because it is well know this is the only way to properly verify operation of all systems, including the horn..
