Looking good! I did the same trans on my 1JZ VVTi S13, before the one you have came out. Its great but the trans is so long and created a bad shifter position, plus its heavy. I don't know where it ends up on E30 though, and added weight is better than an R154. I see that Collins released a BMW ZF trans adapter kit, which rocks.

What are your thoughts on the collins kits (assuming u used one?) I have heard some mixed reviews.

Thanks!. Yea shifter position is a big worry for me. I am going with the cd as this car will see the road a lot and I feel like a 6 speed is a must. as for position, the r154 (which my motor mounts were built using), is ~26", and puts the hole towards the nose, by about ~1.5" off center from the stock shifter hole. Stock for the cd009 is about 38", with a lot of pps selling 4" relocation kits, bringing it down to 34". These guys (https://www.facebook.com/permalink.p...50137019010644) claim to be able to cut it down to 29". So I will probably need to play with it a bunch, and probably make a couple of shifter solutions, but looks like I will probably end up anywhere from 3-5" behind the transmission hole

So best case w 29", I am 1.5-2" behind the stock hole.
Medium case w 34", 6.5" behind stock hole
Worst, I am 9.5" behind stock (shoulda left in my back seat at this point)

          Medium option diy

This all being said, I am replacing the bell housing of the cd009 w a r154 one, so its all a crap shoot anyway of if that will make it shorter or longer, which I wont know until I have a cd009 in front of me, unless anyone in nj area has one lying around and is cool with me measuring it.

So as I see it, it is something I can make a solution for (I am a mechanical engineer, so I design stuff for a living), or I can throw money at it and just bite the bullet and get the one that drops me to 29".

Back from asia. Started pulling the wiring loom and a/c out of the car yesterday (will replace the a/c), discussed paint with my shop, and cut out the spare tire (was super rusty).

Been a while since I have posted. Asia was amazing, finally got argon for the welder, and been getting much better with it. I am going to Bimmerfest east today to look for some goodies for the e30. Plan for the rest of this weekend is to start repairing the car w the welder.

So in general i have lack of updates. Currently doing a valve adjustment on my m3, along w other inspection 2 stuff, hope to be finished w that tomorrow night. Also i plan on replacing the brake lines on the m (doing a track day in two weeks so ideally i want them done this week as well).

Plan is to start tackling more of the e30 after this week, as i will be more available to work on it.

Also i know w this swap, each swap tackles the brake booster question differently. Some swaps remote mount the booster, others go boosterless, and others run smaller boosters mounted offcenter from stock. Knowing that turbod cars have loss of brake assist under boost, i figured why not solve this brake problem the same way? So, my plan is to go w a hydrobooster. It uses power steering pressure to create brake assist, and gives u up to three assisted brakes w/o pressure using a ballon like diaphragm. Further, these units are small, as in roughly the same size as a master cylinder and should give better overall assist.

Actually welding on the car atm, lots of other things happened recently so garage time took a hit. Plus i wanted to really make sure my welding was good before tackling the car.

Some of the patches ive been working on, filled a lot of holes today, painted over some of my previous work as well. Very satisfying to see fresh paint on the interior, brightens it up a lot. Not necessarily the prettiest, but damn solid. Plan for tomorrow is to finish the passenger foot well and figure out the best way to do the side of the well.

Sorry for the lack of updates guys, e30 has been taking a bit of a back seat while the csl airbox was going in. Then my truck exhaust started falling off so I ended up replacing that, only for that to turn into a nightmare (pos toyota bolts were rusted to shit). I had two nuts left on the last header only to have the stud snap when the bolt was half way off. But so now the m3 is tuned, the truck runs again (tho still with a snapped stud), and the e30 is back on the menu. I welded a bit more on it prior to starting the csl conversion, but nothing major, plan on finishing the corners of the driver/passenger footwell this weekend. If I have time, I want to start the trunk as well, tho that might not get touched till next week/end. Once those are done, ill be ordering the engine to start fitment (plan is to turn the car into a run stand to make sure it works, then work on fitment of everything like brake booster etc).
