Build Underway: Back in an e30: Red Baron getting ready to fly (325iS)

I've been toying with getting a project car and as the car gods would have it an e30 local popped up for sale in fairly good shape with some mods already squared away. Picked up the car last week which was an interesting ride home to day the least. Simply put the turner bolts were coming undone on the front wheels. The car made it home despite the minor issues and I have retorqued bolts and ordered some replacements.

I have also reached out to Guten Parts as I'll need stuff from them and ordered a new rubber fuel filler boot.

    On to pictures

There are definitely some plans for this baby so stay tuned, best part will be working on it with my kids.

So lots has happened since picking up the car in mid August and the first step was identifying what I wanted to do with the car. The plan is to build an M-Tech 2 replica...yup replica, but with a 24v swap.

The first step was fixing some of the issues that bugged me right away and the first was the gasket around the gas filler, and secondly the gears and lights in the cluster.

I then went shopping at my local pull it yard for new seat belts all around and anything else I could use. I found a usable tan carpet which was cleaned and subsequently dyed black.

At the same time I pulled the rear deck and recovered that.

Fixed gears, with LED back lighting, rings and red needles. :)

Recovered rear deck, yes I don't plan on using rear speakers for now...don't know that I care enough about rear fill.

Pulled off exterior trim as I prepare for upcoming mods

Test fitting the rear replica bumper

Right before she goes to get the rust in the battery squared away.

Scouring Craigslist I found a donor car for the 24V swap with the ZF tranny. Yes I realize I could do an M54/S52...etc however the price of this donor and my goals make this a good fit for me. As you can see the car suffered a hard life from Syracuse winters and salt.

Front end torn apart getting ready to pull the motor/tranny

          Motor/tranny pulled

Motor/tranny separated and the motor is mounted and ready for whenever I get to it. My goal was to get it out prior to snow and get the donor car gone.

If that M20b25/G260 has been maintained, throw it up on the SPECE30 facebook group to help that crew out to keep M20b25s available. Even the harness, AFM and DME too.
