I should have some updates within the week. It is sitting in the body shop right now getting all the over spray off the black trim and the satin window trim is going to be resprayed.
After I get it back, OEM carpet and seats are being reinstalled; as well as a better dashboard until I can budget the 600 or so for a brand new one in the E46 style vinyl.

Alright so I just finished working on her for the night, concours is sunday.
I still have a lot to do but thats ok, thats what a restoration/build is all about.
Today I went to BMW to pick up some parts. I got new window lock strips (black) and the window tabs and luke brought me down a new coolant expansion tank that I got from west works. I also ordered OEM E30 all weather floor mats, A new shift knob, the little floor mat screws for the carpet, and the foam for the trunk tool box. That should all be in shortly.
On to the progress pictures.
All these pictures are from yesterday... Tonight's pictures will be uploaded and posted tomorrow night or shortly after.
I was working alone so there are some jumps between progress, I only took pictures when I hit good stopping points.
Took out the glovebox, radio, center conceal, instrument cluster, etc.etc.etc...
Got the dash out. Here you can really see the problems with the aftermarket carpet. It was so terrible in places that I had to use tape to hold if down after cutting certain areas to prevent bubbles... yes, bubbles. Sigh.
Heater box out
And finally the bad carpet is gone! I do feel bad though, I got that carpet for christmas from my sister. :-/ I really wish it was better quality like the website had claimed. Fortunately it wasn't an arm and a leg, I should have know something was up by the price.
I also re-plugged all the holes on the chassis while I had the opportunity.
OEM carpet in (not cleaned yet) You can just tell the difference in quality but the way this carpet looks, sits, feels. Im glad to be back to factory.
OH YEAH! Thats the second time i've had to install carpet alone... GOD DAMN IT FUCKING SUCKS! lol, seriously running back and forth from driver to passenger side, just to move an inch or so forward at a time.
Anyway I quit takeing pictures that night after the last ones.
Here is the next morning. Heater box and better condition dash in, I also switched my vin over again, this dash is the 3rd dash my vin has been on.
Worked on some other parts of the car the rest of that day, You'll see those pictures tomorrow. Here is one more of the dash being cleaned up/put together.
More soon.Last edited by Jparkr; 07-25-2009, 03:09 AM.

After it got to dark and boring outside, I came in and worked on my seats. Here is a before and after of the dying. I also repaired the knee support on the drivers side.
Lower bolster on drivers (most worn area of the seats)
After the dyeing was done. Obviously the cracks are still there, but they are very unnoticeable from about a foot now.
Here is the broken piece of the knee support.
and here is the good one, installed.
Next I worked on the carpet to finish the fitment. Trimmed for my street bar and custom seatbelt brackets.
Dash coming along, everything was going smoothly
Then it was time to install the drivers side speaker cover. This was from an early model, so I had to cut the knee bracket areas out. Luckily I had a tan late model cover so I just made the marks and ran to my parents house and used my dad's bandsaw.
Done
And hey look at that, it fits now.
Hell yeah, looking pretty clean, minus the drivers side carpet. Everything buttoned up and in place.
Steering wheel on, passenger seat getting installed.
Drivers side carpet cleaned.
all seats in and accounted for
Painted the blower cover to match the rest of the firewall covers.
And installed today:
OK. Its time I stopped dickin around and did my sunroof seal.
Removing
Installing
Yuck, a lot of wetsand dust from the body shop. Time to clean that shit.
Much more time later
Finishing up my headliner dying while I had the chance.
Much better
And just like that, It was reinstalled, magically with lots of cursing...
Got some goodies I talked about last night.
Expansion tank
Window lock strips and locking tabs
Lock strips and tabs installed. Thanks to Rich for the help.
Engine bay detail time...
Coolant tank in. Strut mount bolts fixed. Black lettering on the intake manifold. Fan shroud installed. Engine bay walls and inner fenders washed.
Oh and headlight covers installed
Gave her a bath
Working on the wheel caps now.
OK BREAKS OVER! I better get back to work before I kick my ass.Last edited by Jparkr; 07-25-2009, 09:06 PM.

I got third place... I dont know how, It was the same top four cars as last year and my car is much, much cleaner then when I took second. Oh well Ill have to wait for my score cards to be mailed.
I am pretty bummed to put that much work into her just to think I had a chance at first, then to find out I was bumped down one from last year with a better car? Idk, I'm just venting. Anyway we took some great pictures and ill post them up when edited.
