So talked to my mechanic today. Found out that the dude who owned it before me cranked down some spark plugs and got them stuck. He tried pulling them out and turns out he has to take the head off to get to them. He's going to put some new gaskets in while he's there. We also found out that he didn't put all the transmission bolts in, and the ones he did put in were wrong. Exhaust was put on horribly, but has stainless steel headers. Didn't check for any brand will soon though.

I'm hopefully going to work on it with him as I'm semi-new with working on cars. Also wanted to say that this forum is full of good info and hope to stay for a while!

        Thanks guys!
Where did you find this mechanic?

The labor charges for the stuff you've had/are going to have done is well in excess of the value of the car...

And how is taking the head off going to help get the "stuck" spark plugs out? Soak them in PB Blaster and pull them out.

The plugs are prolly cross threaded, either that or the mechanic is a snake.

So what if the labor costs exceed the cost of the car, if he likes the car go for it. For most of the shitboxes on here, a new set of tires and a full tank of gas is going to exceed blue book. That's not what this game is about.

Agreed! I don't like to look at the blue book on mine. It's a hobby, not an investment. Keep at it if it makes you happy!

He's a very good friend of ours and he's not going to charge a lot.

don't worry, we're just tough judges. No one is particularly mean or dick-ish. Unless you're talking about Blunt. He loves dicks more than the Olsen Twins love coke.

yeah, dont worry about the smart ass comments. most of the guys on here are just fishing for newbs that get but hurt. give it a while and everyone will calm down.

nice project by the way. once everything is somewhat sorted out, they are excellent cars.

Keep up the solid work. These cars are a ton of fun to drive.

I have found the majority of the people on this site to be nice, helpful, and supportive.
