been a while since i've updated this-
robert ran into a misfire issue about a month ago. i was worried the new ECU & 91oct MarkD chip had something to do with it, but it turned out to be an injector gone faulty. (naturally that would be it, since i already bought 24lb/hrs to go in w/ the turbo setup; of course i have to spend $100 to rebuild a set of stockers that had been pulled from colin86325's 318is.)
the straight-pipe exhaust got a "nay" from the GF, and i have to keep this thing reasonable if i'm going to talk her into letting me play with our e46 Xi next, so we redid it with a small resonator and a dynomax straight-through muffler. pics:

and a video:

keep in mind it is in the shop during filming, it's probably not quite so loud out in the open. it is 2.5" from the resonator back at the moment; when the turbo goes in the downpipe will be 3" from turbine outlet until the cat, which is a small bullet-type that'll be as close as possible, and then use a reducer to go down to 2.5" and meet up with what's already been done.
next up is the stereo:

priority one with this setup was to not take up any space in the already-compromised convertible interior/trunk. two was to integrate well with the existing visual elements of the car- i can't stand seeing those cobalt-blue-LED decks in an e30, it just looks out of place to me. so i went with a blaupunkt deck with some few thousand of color display options, and a silver surround (which should touch off the brushed alu AKG parts well).
the car had the premium 6-speaker to start with, so i went with Pioneer components for the front, and the blaupunkt amp to drive that. i haven't been able to find much that works for the rear seats of an e30 vert... really just need something to drive off the deck's signal-level rear outs.
the other (bigger) amp is a 200w single-channel to drive the 4 "bass shakers" in those cardboard boxes- one is going to go under each front seat, and we're going to hollow out spots in the center of the rear seat upright for the other two. these were cheap, and kind of an experiment, we'll see how they pan out... if not, i'll figure out something small to go in the trunk. i am hopeful though, because the frequency response range on these looks pretty nice and i listen to lots of industrial/electronic music involving strange/distorted bass.
finally, we ran into a bit of trouble with the Mason hardware. the X-brace went in fine as you can see in the pics above, but the strut tower bar interferes with the wiring loom cover at the cowl base. there are pics on Mason's site of an M42 car with the same brace installed, so we're not sure if there are slight differences in the convertible causing this, or what else it might be...
in other news, i leave ramadi on monday, so hopefully back stateside by this time next week.
