Well this is with some kind of z3 shifter, so if you're using the stock rod 6" may be overkill, but with a shorter shifter its not bad. The 5" knob is a little longer than my stock one was. I love it though, very solid with a little bit of weight to it. No flexing like my old leather knob did.
