the wheels on that f40 look-alike must've cost a hell of a lot

    Comment

Horray! I've been waiting for an update to this for a while. Lookin' good!

BTW, you are very very lucky on your Compomotive TH1780's, they just cancelled my order because they are no longer offering offsets under 27 on that wheel. I was really looking forward to putting them on the M.

I know, I don't even want to know. They need some work though but they are really hard to get now.

Wow, that's really unfortunate. but on the plus/selfish side, I guess that helps the uniqueness of my car! I think they make an 18" version but it isn't listed on compomotive web site. That reyland site I used to get mine were offering them for escorts.

Now's as good a time as any to start posting here i guess. I started reading this thread a half hour before I left work. I clocked out and kept reading. Two and a half hours after my workday ended, I'm going to close the computer, use the bathroom, and finally leave.

            Bravo.

Seriously, bravo. You engrossed a guy with the attention span of a chiuaua puppy. My 318is is going to remain stock-ish as I bought it to be a daily driver, but I hope it looks half that good in the end.

And finally, regarding the F40, I'm of the belief you've earned the benefit of the doubt.

Now I know you all ready have a body but if that f40 is going to be a long term project I would like to make a suggestion.

Get rid of the 318is body and build your self a kit car. Make your own frame like a locost, throw in a a bmw v8 mid mounted with a transaxle and call it a day I think you would be a lot more satisfied with the end product then trying to make a 318is f40 kit look good. Just though i would raise that in case you may not have though of it.

But if you are up to the challenge and are keen on the job good luck and I will be keeping a keen eye on that project.

Loving the 318is by the way can wait to see if finished.

You mean the fiero? A hybrid frame and passenger compartment is being considered. I luckliy have time for research and welder acquisition.

The base car is a Pontiac Fiero -- it's not a nickname for the 318is. I don't think they were imported Down Under. There were a number of 'Ferrari' body kits for it:

                        Awwwww :(

                        but yeah, you are correct.

This one has the revised suspension that the series received in its final year, or so i've been told. There are some wider aftermarket setups available to to improve the handling.

I don't think there will be much fiero left when finished.

If you maul the fiero into something like this:

Then some definite opportunities open up.

I was able to acquire a cad model of it but the conversion of the AD inventor to STEP (so I can see it in CATIA) was less than successful. Just the bottom portion of the chassis.

This stuff is pretty far out though. I got a nice christmas bonus this year which I was going to use towards a welder but my wife suggested that a mini-split A/C would be more useful for me. They are both on the garage wish list.

I did acquire some M42 stuff this week for the E21. I've got in-laws to entertain this weekend but I will try and post some pictures.
