    My First TEAZURZURSHURE!!!

So the delivery man arrived while I was at work and left these:

    What's in the box?

    From Merry ole England eh?

    That's the wrong side.

    There we go.

    And on the car.

Yep, I got TH Mono's Some of you may find this cool. Some may cringe at the lack of dish. Me personally? I couldn't be happier. I think some of you may be seeing where I am going with this build. I want to reproduce the look of a touring car before it gets decals applied to it, a sort of customer car if you will. Expect to see some interior stripping but with an 911 RS feel to it. I will say that Bob Cooper's E30 now owned by Ben Carufel is a huge inspiration to what I would like to accomplish.

Anywho. That is all. Off to the Watchmen.

Apparently this works on Jordan's white 318is pretty well.

Wow, I'm glad I discovered this thread. Great work on the car, I love where this is heading. I have to say that Super Dooper's old white car was one of my inspirations as well. So is this going to be a track car? Or just a weekend car kind of thing?

And I'm going to send you a PM about your job.

dang, website went down for me as i finished my reply!

you and me both. sadly, it will probably be a while before i get some tires on them as I'm trying to get the 24V into the engine bay. I'm thinking about some dunlop direzza star something or others that seem to be the new hotness. Hopefully I can get them sometime this summer but for now I'll roll it around on the RB's. It is killing me though as I want to see what it looks like with tires, and the coilovers dropped down so the tires are all tucking. I've got some DTM pictures on my work computer screensaver with the centerlock version of those wheels on E30 M3's. Dang they look cool.

It looks like with the corrado discs I'm running with Massive Lee's brakes, I'll need a spacer to get the wheel to sit up against the rotor due to the fact the corrado rotor is thinner than the e30 rotor. This isn't a problem as Lee supplied me with some 3mm spacers per my request. I'm hoping they don't push the wheel out too far once I get tires on them. I might need to beg him profusely for some 1.5mm spacers instead and see if I can send the 3mm back. I've got a while before that needs to be addressed though.

That past weekend, I was able to get in the garage long enough to finish that last caliper and get it on the car. All the lines are now hooked up so it's ready for some fluid and bleeding. I started cleaning the cosmoline on the driver's side engine bay with the steam cleaner. Unfortunately there's some heavy scratching and heavy discoloration from all that oil leaking. I'm probably going to repaint the bay but I haven't chosen a path yet. I could get some cans mixed up from paintscratch.com and spraybomb the hell out of the bay. I could pick up a HVLP gun and try to do it the right way. I've never painted a car so this would be something new for me to mess up. A coworker is trying to convince me to go the HVLP route but all of this would be in the garage so I would need to mask quite a bit to limit the overspray. Coupled with the fact that southern alabama on the water makes it quite humid, I have a fairly narrow window to paint the bay. Suggestions are welcome. This is the time to fix the bay up but at the same time, it is the engine bay. Probably the best area to practice and hone your painting skill, you know?

Thankfully, overtime is winding down so I'll have more time to work on the car. I think I will continue to remove the cosmoline and begin masking up the bay in preparation for painting. I'll try and get some more pictures up this weekend too.

+1 for HVLP. No personal experience but a friend of mine has done amazing things to his rabbit. I've always wanted to try... like you said, the engine bay is the perfect place to start learning!

Awesome build... keep up the great work.

Jack I would recommend that you buy a HVLP gun and spray it yourself. You don't need to go crazy with a high priced gun, especially if you are just spraying the bay (and it is your first time spraying). I am working on painting my car, and my friend (with experience) and I are doing it in my garage. You could do something like this; but maybe on a smaller scale, for your garage. It's just 1/2" pvc and plastic sheeting.

And one with the car pulled in.

It has a door that gets closed and sealed, along with two box fans that actually pull a very good amount of air through the booth. Enough so that I don't have to worry about overspray getting on other parts of the car.

Yeah, I think I'm going to try the gun and build up a both like you built Jordan but maybe not to that scale. At this point I just need to buy the gun, I can borrow a friends compressor and just give it a shot. Unfortunately it will probably be a month or so before I can get to it with work and Easter visitors. Apparently I have to spend time visiting inlaws instead of working on the car. pshhhhh.

Anyhow, the right hand side of the bay is cleaned up and sanded. Cosmoline sucks but all of you know this. The steam worked pretty well but the fact sanding works best should be no surprise. Those of you who just want to remove the cosmoline and not repaint, I would recommend the steam clean method. You'll get most of it off. I also removed a couple of brackets I don't need to clean it up. I'll work on the front and then move to the left hand side soon. pictures are still on the camera so i'll try and get them loaded up by this weekend.

                                Thanks for the input all.
