Easy, VLC can't do Blu-Ray. It has something to do with licensing I believe.

cant be, because i then downloaded other files and same thing. i first thought it had something to do with my graphics card. so i turned the second one on and same thing.

If it's going crazy at the same spot then it's probably some sort of file corruption. Try to skip over it, try another player (there are quite a few now), or try another codec (decoder).

The file you downloaded has all the Blu-Ray protection stripped off, so it's not DRM/copy protection causing your problem. If it were, it wouldn't play at all.

Community Codec Pack get it for WMP and it will play. I used vlc but it started getting choppy when watching the new Bond movies.

huh? what are the chances that an *.MKV file downloaded off a torrent network requires a license?

have you tried media player classic? I never really liked VLC.

install FFDSHOW and haali media splitter.

@h0lmes: mkv is not blueray. OP is confused.

mkv is just a package, it could be any codec being used. Theres an option in VLC to see which codecs its using. Find them, update/reinstall them. Chances are ffdshow will have it though.

running a full 1080p video on any computer is very difficult. depending on how compressed the video is, it will run smoothly or terribly, often making VLC freeze. at least this is my experience.

all the 720p videos i have downloaded though run well on my computer with 300MB of video memory.
