    BRoked oil pan

So i shatered my oil pan yesterday. i have an 87 325e, any 6 cylinder oil pan will fit right? (besides an ix). Any info on switching an oil pan out would be greatly appreciated.

Google e30 oil pan removal and you can find quite a nice write up.

I have also heard people say that you can unbolt the motor mounts and jack the engine up to get the extra clearance that you need to get the oil pump out.

    Simplisticly you would:
Remove the ~15-20 10mm bolts around the oilpan
    Remove the ground wire
Remove the oil level sending unit
    Raise the engine
Remove the 13mm bolts holding the oil pump in. Let it drop into the pan
    Remove the pan
    Reinstall new pan

I recommend using Indian Head Gasket Schelac

    Hope that helps.

This just happened to me two weeks ago, pure carnage. As long as you didn't do any other damage you'll just need a new gasket. Make sure the drain plug on your new pan isn't stripped either.

            Good luck man!

No longer stock ride height, rolling as low as a daily driver in New England should without worrying about breaking an oil pan.

Thanks for the tips fellow R3Vers. I actually found a local guy that had a parts car. He just let me have the oil pan fo free. it was actually really easy to get off with the whole front of the car already chopped.
Downz- haha just for the love of god dont take County road 37. unless its with the jetta, that thing needs to die sometime.

WATCH your finger/hands over the edge, put car on stands. drop the subframe bolts A LITTLE and buy a ratchet wrench. I did it when I was like 15. real easy, just dont cut your hands.
