    Online Resume Submissions

I'm curious to know if anyone here has ever gotten a bite or an actual job as a result of an online resume submission. I'm trying to get a job in the middle east and have begun submitting resumes with defense contractors. It seems like the only way to get a "foot in the door" with these outfits is through the internet.
I'm not asking strictly about gov't jobs, just work in general via an internet resume upload.
    thx

I haven't gotten much from them for Internships/Co-ops Maybe a handful of bites out of over 200. Are you a student? If so, study-abroad programs (like A&M's Quatar campus) are the best way to get your name out there.

For reference, I'm a Mechanical Engineering student.

I got a bite from a local university job, that I applied for through an online submission.
But I'm sure the jobs you're trying to land are alot more complicated than the pool cleaning job I was trying to get lol

Every law enforcement job I applied for was online, and have progressed in the steps. If they offer it online, I dont see why they wouldnt accept it.

Out of 100 online applications that I've submitted, only 1 resulted in getting an interview and it turned out to be a job referral company disguised as a temp agency. They told me about the "membership fees" to be in their network but there was no job.

It seems like whenever I put my resume on Monster.com or the "Jobs" section of my local newspaper, I get spammed 35 to 40 times a day. I realize that spam is inevitable but it seems like common sense would tell these people that if I am looking for a job, then obviously I am not in a position to buy anything.

^How many of the jobs that you applied for were you actually qualified for?

I've gotten a few calls for interviews, and even had an interview that way. They called me back to interview with the Vice-President of the company but they weren't willing to pay enough so I thanked them for their time.

I've been searching to hire several tech guys to work for me for the past 3 months. The pool is so incredibly huge right now. I'm offering 12$/hour pay and I've interviewed 6 candidates with masters degrees for this entry level position. It's apparent times are tough, there's an influx of over educated and under qualified individuals right now.

                  $12/hr, in LA?

How can you even live on that?

Forget living off of it, how can you pay off your college loans? Not my problem. I'm sure most of these guys are still living off mom and dad.

You'd be surprised how many applicants I'm getting as well. Apparently they can all make it work, one can only assume 12/hour is better than no job at all.

Exactly what are you looking to do for work over there? I ask because most people wouldn't believe that jobs in the middle east are in high demand right now, but I know of numerous defense contractors that pay their employees big bucks(3.5X base pay) to work over there.

Available jobs over tend to get nabbed pretty quick by existing employees.

What defense contractors are you interested in?
