    Any Martial Arts Guys??

So I got a GF about a year ago and now I'm 35 pound heavier. My car's weight reduction upgrade needs to start with my ass lol. Anyways I've always been a runner but I've always wanted to do some martial art but never done it for some reason.

I want something that will be useful for self defense as well as kick my ass physically. A rec center near me has Chinese Kung Fu for 30.00 a month and they seem pretty cool, might be a little ghetto though.

Any suggestions or tips? I dont want to do Tea Kwon Do or Karate just because I associate those with little kids. So right now its between Jujitsu, Hapkido, Kungfu, and there's some crazy Phillipino stuff locally but I dont know anything about it. I looked into Krav Maga too but theres nothing local.

Any advice would be great! Thanks!

I dunno what you have locally, but we have Liddell's Hawaiian Kempo and a Gracie BJJ School. Id go with BJJ given the choices you listed.

Haha apparently you haven't seen REAL Tae Kwon Do training. No martial art out there is for little kids. Any type is dangerous.

        This is what I do.

Music sucks but you get the pont :).

I grew up learning Bushido, it was fun but there was a lot of weapons training after my first few years.

Go tell Lyoto Machida that karate is for kids. Or better yet, Ask Rashad Evans if karate is for kids.

I don't mean that its for kids.... I associate it with the kids around here its what all the soccer kids do.

you can't deny the popularity Karate and TKD have with children. I would just feel silly

and Jflip I was really thinking about BJJ there are some around here. I like Kung Fu but it looks pretty rigid.

I'd say Jiu Jitsu is by far the best in terms of all around fitness. Very balanced use of muscles, great for cardio, great for flexibility, etc. Plus I've never seen a 12 year old black belt in jiu jitsu...

That's exactly the kind of advice I'm looking for. Have you ever taken classes or are you experienced in Jiu Jitsu?

on Battleground Ave, in Big Lots and ABC shopping lot, there's MMA store. Stop by there and find out where local gyms are. Since MMA is a little bit of everything, and work outs are very demanding. OR, let's go running every morning or evening, there's an amazing loop around the lake we could use, and we know we'll be safe, since we won't be driving.
