My boss recently paid like $70 bucks for a full synthetic oil change. When she got the car home her husband noticed it was the old filter. This prompted him to check the oil - which was burnt to shit. She was awarded with something like 40 free pep boys oil changes for not filing suit.

I guess it depends on the place. I know at both shops I've worked at, we've never stolen anything from customers' cars or anything like that.

The worst thing we've ever done is buy a 6 pack of beer at the corner liquor store and once we close at 7pm we drink it.

at one shop we had a tech get busted for picking up an undercover cop posing as a hooker in a customer's conversion van.

there is many more stories, but i need to go to the gym. i'll post more tomarrow.

to be fair though. when i get a customer's car in the shop, i go over what is in the car, including the glovebox and center console. if there is anything valuable, in the car, i bring the writer over and show them so they will take note or give the stuff to him/her until i am done with the car. that way MY ass is covered! i have seen techs fired over missing stuff that i know that they did not take. you are not the only hands that touch the customers car, this just makes sure that you don't get blamed. customers are not always honest either, sometimes they say shit is missing that was never there. just putting that out there.

1. Why the fuck would you pay $70 for an oil change

2. Why the fuck would you take payment IN OIL CHANGES AT THE PLACE THAT SCAMMED YOU BY NOT CHANGING YOUR OIL

It's not like pep boys is the only place that does that, and it's not like they do it infrequently.

We got our Sprinter serviced at the local Dodge/Ford/Toyota dealer. Bill was $110. It takes a fair bit of oil and @ $8/qt. for synthetic it adds up pretty fast. Except that they didn't put synthetic in it--they charged $8/qt for Quaker State conventional oil. When I called to inquire why the price of bulk oil was so high, I was told that they charge market price and that they also rotated the tires (I then explained to the writer that the stickers were still on the brand-new tires when I dropped it off). They offered me a free oil change to keep me happy but the only thing that keeps me happy is staying away from that place.
