My family has an 18" Larson I/O bow rider and it's been a great boat. Bought it new back in 2000 and the only thing it has required except for regular maintenance was a new fuel pump and a battery. Has almost 300 hours and it still seems new. Keep it on the dock in the summer and in the yard in the winter. Makes it real nice when you have it docked 30 feet from your house and can use it any time you want. I know owning a boat/boating can be a disaster but we have never had a problem...

I don't own a boat but my friend has an 08 x-star and it is an awesome boat. We use it all of the time in the summer, and it has never had any problems. But I can tell you that those fucking things go through gas like you wouldn't believe. You can burn through a tank in a day if you are wake boarding a lot. I have no idea about insurance or any of that shit though.

And mastercrafts are awesome. That is by far the best boat I've ridden behind.

After being a Tech Writer for MerCruiser, I will never own a boat. I'll just enjoy my friends that have them and bring the beer.

I really can't imagine that payment with such a short season, hell even this far south the water was still too cold to enjoy on Memorial Day.

X-Stars are fucking sick. One of my friend's friend had one and it was really nice.
Personally I've ridden behind Sangers, Malibu Wakesetters, and Super Air Nautiques and I liked those all better than the Mastercrafts I've ridden behind. Personal choice though.

I have an 06 Super Air Nautique team 220. I've had it since new probably have 60-80 hours on it. All in all I haven't had to spend to much on it. As long as you take good care of it,it should not be to bad.

The 2 happiest days in a boat owners life is the day he buys it and the even more so the day he sells it.
Well, that is... If its a freshwater boat. Because catching wimpy little bass and pulling tubes around gets old.

this is the near perfect situation.

I would however, own a sail boat, there is something about sailing that you just cant get anywhere else.
Now look, I am not evil. My loan officer said so.

This is one of the family boats...

                      Super big hole!
Now THAT is a boat. If it's ever around the MS/AL gulf coast area I would like to see it.

If you can get a good deal on it than go for it. There's nothing better than sitting out on the lake during a hot summer day. I've got malibu vtx and the overall cost of maintenance isn't all that bad 75 bucks for an oil change and a 300 400 for winter storage if you don't have a place to keep it yourself. You can expect to spend 50 to 100 on gas every time you go out though so that gets expensive but its worth it. Also make sure you have a big enough truck to tow it.

The x1 is their base level boat, but it doesnt mean it isnt tits. The hull was revolutionary in its day. That being said, its a good hull at a good price. Tricked out boats cost like 60-80 grand new for the top tier ones. I want a toy, not the equivalent of half a mortgage payment.

The ball and chain plays a pretty big role in the decision. She grew up wakeboarding, even did a few pro tour events, so Im thinking its actually going to be getting more use than I think. Ive got the truck to tow it as well which helps. It would be a 20 mile trek to the good lake, there are a few closer but not a nice.

50-100 bucks a trip is what I expected. If friends chipped in for gas even better. 50-100 bucks for a great day on the lake is money well spent.

Im going out on it this weekend to try out the wake, give it a full test run, etc. Well see how it goes.

20 miles to a lake is nothing.

It seems like it'd be worth it in your situation. Go for it.
