Not taking this political as the video does, but is this really how it is in Canada?
Canadian Health Care? Is it really like this?

basically, yes
my wife is canadian and one weekend she fell off her horse and broke her arm. We were amazed that we only had to wait in the emergency room for an hour. typically it could have been 5 or more, they were just having a slow day.
the province of BC is short thousands of doctors and nurses, and the whole system is way underfunded. My mother in law is a head nurse in a BC hospital and they never have enough people to cover all the shifts and sometimes there aren't even enough beds for everyone.
and of course, they pay a taxes for that health care, I've seen my wifes income statements... it's not free at all.
the one thing about our system is that administrative costs are pretty high, like 40%.
don't worry, I doubt Obama's plan will not pass. Our government is nearly bankrupt, and social security hasn't even peaked yet. we're already 1 trillion in the hole this year, I really doubt higher taxes and more government spending will be politically viable. Unless people are suicidal..Comment

I was riding my bike and cut a pretty gnarly cash in my shin that wouldnt stop bleeding. I only waited 8 hours in the emergency room while being wrapped up over and over because blood was spilling through the gauze onto the waiting room floor as I sit in a wheelchair. This is one of the finest hospitals in the US, Vanderbilt.basically, yes

I dont think you caught the story. The story is Canada has government health care. The lines are long and you cant even go to a clinic over the weekends because they are closed.
But if you like to pay out of pocket you can go to a private clinic. Even their own government is pushing the private health care service. I guess if your going to need something fast your going to have to pay extra for the service, on top of the health care that is already taxed from the Canadian citizen.Build your own dreams, or someone else will hire you to build theirs!

Is there private health care insurance for Canadian citizens? IF so, what kind of premiums are asked from the insurance companies for young healthy people of Canada?
Also what percentage of your income is dedicated to your health care insurance?Build your own dreams, or someone else will hire you to build theirs!

I don't see the problem with our healthcare system now. Just have insurance. Yeah, it's expensive - but it's better than paying more in taxes for a worse system. Universal healthcare is a joke. Medicaid and Medicare are the reason traditional health insurance is so expensive. The trick is finding the right hospital. In houston there are a shit ton of hospitals - some of which you will wait 10 hours to be placed in a bed in the hallway and others you'll be in a 20x20 room with hardwood floors in 30 minutes. It's all a matter of educating yourself and not making rash decisions. Obviously in an emergency situation you'll be taken to the nearest hospital so there's not much you can do there."We praise or find fault, depending on which of the two provides more opportunity for our powers of judgement to shine."Comment

yes, but the problem is exactly like the guy in the video described. Since the poor people are already paying for government insurance through high taxes, they can't afford to pay for both the government and private insurance. so the only people who can actually get the care they need are the wealthy. And there are very few specialists in canada - you have to go to the USA which requires private insurance.
I'd have to look at my wifes pay stub again but I seem to remember it being surprisingly high - 5-10% maybe?. She works for a charity so it's not exactly high income either.Comment

how is it free if you are paying for it through your taxes?
Unless you don't plan on ever working and just living off what the government gives you. Oh, wait..Last edited by nando; 07-14-2009, 10:11 AM.Comment

I'm sorry - but government programs are for people who are too lazy or stupid to handle their own money. I'd rather put my money in a medical savings account than hand it over to those scoundrels to take care of. If I had my way the only thing I'd pay taxes for are the mail, roads, law enforcement and the FDA."We praise or find fault, depending on which of the two provides more opportunity for our powers of judgement to shine."Comment

It's not, obviously. But if you think about it here in AmeriKKKKKAAAA we pay for government health care and privatized health care because we end up paying for vegetables and illegals that soak up public services and can't payComment

nobody said it was perfect. I pointed out that the administrative costs were far too high. But government health care is not the utopian dream everyone thinks it is. Somebody, somewhere has to pay for it.
I saw a quote yesterday that was pretty good - socialism is great, until you run out of somebody else's money.Comment

Fuck the FDA, are you fucking kidding me? The FDA are some of the biggest fucking crooks in the country.I'm sorry - but government programs are for people who are too lazy or stupid to handle their own money. The problem with healthcare is that costs associated with it are so fucking inflated BECAUSE of policies like insurance.
Do you really thing an open heart surgery ACTUALLY costs anywhere near $150,000?
The power required to run chemotherapy treatments and the money to develop the intravenous chemicals associated with it costs thousands each time after the initial investment in R&D, etc?
Fuck that. The medical industry is one of the biggest fucking crocks of shit in the world. The cost for services rendered is so inflated its ridiculous. Healthcare realistically is reasonable and affordable for everyone in the country, the problem is american greed and corporate greed driving costs up, and insurance companies backing this practice by paying out massive amounts of demanded money on the behalf of their clients.Comment
