This whole thread is definately some food for though for me. I ride a bike to & from work everyday.....have been since early May. Presently I do not have any lights on my bike, but I probably should consider getting some as fall approaches and the sun starts going down earlier. Since early May there's always been ample daylight during my commute, but I know that's going to change in the not too distant future.
When I ride I have to share the road with the cars. One stretch of my trip (which accounts for about 1/2 the total distance) has designated bike lanes so that serves as a bit of a safe zone....but I know well enough not to take that for granted. I've seen motorists not being alert and I've had 2 close calls with cars in the last 4 months.
Like Old-n-Slow said, proper lights are cheaper than a lawyer. Sound advice I plan to use. And I plan to review my local laws (again) re: my obligations as a cyclist on the public roads.

I ride my BMX in the road in the city all the time. The difference between me and the OP? I don't ride like I have the rights of a car (even though I do). People honestly expect the sheeple (whom can't even correctly look out for MOTORcycles) to keep an eye out for a cyclist? Please.
I'm all for riding in the street, or wherever you want.... But use your fucking brain. Motorists don't give a shiiiiiiiiat about cyclists, and you have significantly less mass than car.

Ride on.
I do the same thing, as long as I have space.
But most assholes on bikes just expect you to see them and expect you to slow down. There's where people get hit.

I was fucking with the kid anyways. I cycle as well. But I try not to run into cars....
But then again it's usually the cyclists fault for the accident up here.
