I've been making suggestions jokingly, but really get your sister and yourself a couple small stun guns or mace. Don't even think about guns, if god forbid something happened, and you killed that man, the police aren't going to take too kindly to the fact that you shot some asshole who was yelling at you. Let alone explaining to your kids why their uncle is leaving your house without a face. There really is no way for you to get in trouble with protection style weapon (ie: stun gun, mace, pepper spray), or something improvised (glass pot of roasting hot coffee to the face). The guy just really needs to be knocked the fuck out and arrested, he'll probably get off with what ever by pleading insanity but at least then he'd get help.

This is unless of course he threatens your family.

This shit works awesome!! I can completly vouch for it!! I keep it in my car, and when a road-rager came over to my convertible to punch me for not turning when a "No turns on red" sign was right in front of me. I gave it to him point blank in the face!! It compeletely blew his stupid oakley sunglasses off!! Getting hit with this shit will make it alot easier to disarm him if he comes after you. Remember tho, never bring a knife to a gunfight!

I was doing a little reading and I guess in CA you can't carry more than 2.5 oz.. I guess the stuff comes in different strengths and 17% is the highest. I read that the police only use 2-5% because they don't want to deal with the people crying forever after they arrest them. The stuff I bought at the store was 10%, but I may order the 17% on ebay.

And I'll say, I think I would hesitate to shoot the guy with a gun just because I don't want to go to prison. He would have to be right in my face before I'd actually try to kill him and at that point it would probably be too late. You can be charged for assault for firing the pepper spray when it's not needed, but I can handle that.

The deputies at the courthouse told me I could probably get a protective order if I fill out a ton of forms, but I'm thinking the police will still show up either way after a 911 call? I may do it just so that they could arrest him I suppose.

Get the protection order first! That way if he violates the order, the less chance you will be charged for assault when you spray him. Get the bear spray and use that for defense, and the get a smaller 2.5 oz to keep in your pocket to show the cops when they show up.
You will be golden then! I'm sure the cops will side with you when a guy that has assaulted you before breaks the protective order and you act in self-defense. He is larger than you as well, so you can say you were very scared for your personal safety. Hopefully you can get him locked up and kick the shit out of him in the process.

After my wife was ripped off & the law not caring to follow through, I've been finding solice in the show "Dexter" on Showtime. First couple seasons are on DVD. You might enjoy it too.

Never take a life, and try to never break the law. It sounds like he's a douche with a bad temper so it should be easy to get him to break the law. Security cameras at your sister's place aren't premeditation, they're common-sense protection. And they just might capture him acting out.

Take all precautions, cameras and security system at her house, notify the school he can't take the kids without the mom present, pepper spray and only get a gun if you and her are ready to use it. In cali I think you need to talk to a sheriff for a concealed carry permit (I think so, don't quote me on this). Otherwise good luck man.

EDIT: Make sure to follow all the legal channels for a restraining order and protection order. Don't wanna end up in jail for doing the right thing..

not everyone has the correct presence of mind to shoot at the right time under stress and can deal with the legal ramifications of shooting someone. me i have been in that situation and know i can deal with it, but i am not everyone. i was just trying to give suggestions that he will have no problem executing when the time comes.
